Louisiana heads west to face Stanford, Indiana, Arkansas in Round Rock Classic

LAFAYETTE – CJ Willis' one-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning capped off a two-run rally and lifted the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team to a 6-5 win over in-state opponent Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
Jake Hammond (1-0), the seventh pitcher used by Louisiana (3-1) in the game, pitched the final 1.1 innings and fanned two batters in earning the win in his Ragin' Cajuns debut.
 
Louisiana led 4-1 after five innings before SLU (2-2) scored twice in the sixth inning and tied the game on Preston Faulkner's two-out double down the left-field line. The Lions, who were picked as the Southland Conference preseason favorite, took a 5-4 lead in the 10th inning when Evan Keller drew a bases-loaded walk to score Bryce Grizzaffi.
 
Louisiana opened its half of the 10th with a leadoff single by Kyle DeBarge off SLU's Andrew Landry (1-1) before Carson Roccaforte laced a single through the right side to move DeBarge to third. Pinch-hitter Jonathan Brandon then reached on a fielder's choice which scored DeBarge before scoring on Willis' second extra base hit – a double to center field – and marking the Ragin' Cajuns first walk-off victory since Colton Frank's solo home run against Tulane on March 26, 2019.
 
Roccaforte, who finished 2-for-5, hit a one-out double into the left-center field gap off SLU starter Lance Lauve to drive in Max Marusak and DeBarge to give Louisiana a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Julian Brock and Bobby Lada recorded back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth inning help Louisiana pull away from a 2-1 lead after SLU's Shea Thomas hit an RBI single to center.
 
The Lions cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth when Christian Garcia tripled into the right-center field gap and later scored when an attempted pick-off throw sailed past third baseman Tyler Robertson.
 
After Drew Shifflet, who pitched a team-high 3.0 innings in relief for Louisiana, earned the first two outs of the ninth inning, Tyler Finke tripled into the left-field corner before Faulkner laced a double past third baseman Warnner Rincones to tie the game at 4-4.
 
Roccaforte, Willis and Lada each had two hits to lead Louisiana, which had a season-high 10 hits highlighted by six doubles. Brandon Talley earned the start for Louisiana and fanned a pair of batters in two innings of work. Jacob Schultz, Austin Perrin, Chipper Menard, Shifflet and Hammond each struck out a pair of batters for the Ragin' Cajuns, who fanned 12 SLU batters to tie a season-high.
 
Louisiana will play its first games away from home beginning on Friday when it faces No. 4-ranked Stanford in the opening game of the Karbach Round Rock Classic at Dell Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns will face Big 10 member Indiana on Saturday at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the three-day, four-team event on Sunday against No. 2-ranked Arkansas at 4 p.m.
