Julien Scores Career-High to Power Louisiana Men’s Basketball Past ULM

LAFAYETTE – Redshirt-freshman forward Kobe Julien posted a career-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Louisiana Men's Basketball downed ULM 79-74 Saturday night at the Cajundome.
 
With the performance, Julien has now recorded his first two career double-doubles in a five-game span. The Baton Rouge, La. native has also totaled 15+ points in five straight contests.
 
After scoring a career-high 16 points against the Warhawks on Thursday, junior guard Jalen Dalcourt tallied a new career-best 17 points on Saturday. Dalcourt also added four rebounds and a pair of assists.
 
In the final home game of his career, senior forward Dou Gueye contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds to the effort. Before the contest, Gueye was honored in a pregame ceremony.
 
Forward Theo Akwuba provided Louisiana with a dominant inside presence throughout the night as the junior finished with nine rebounds and six points.
 
Dalcourt energized the Ragin' Cajuns out of the gate, the junior connected on a 3-pointer, forced a steal, and threw down a dunk on consecutive possessions to give Louisiana a 9-3 lead with three minutes elapsed.
 
ULM led by a point nearly five minutes in, but a 7-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns provided the Vermillion and White an 18-12 advantage. Gueye scored five in the surge, with Dalcourt providing the remaining bucket.
 
The Warhawks responded with a 10-2 run that spanned over five minutes of game time. Freshman forward Joe Charles scored a layup to end the spurt and tied the contest at 22 with 7:37 remaining.
 
Junior guard Trajan Wesley earned three points on an and-one layup to give Louisiana a brief lead, but a 15-5 run by the Warhawks in the final five minutes of the half gave the visitors a 39-30 lead at the break.
 
After the Ragin' Cajuns began the second half on a 12-5 run to cut the advantage to just two, ULM scored nine straight to take an 11-point lead as the game entered the final 10 minutes.
 
The tide turned at the 7:21 mark as Dalcourt threw down a putback dunk to punctuate a 7-0 Louisiana run.
 
The Warhawks were able to regain the lead for a few brief moments, but a 15-5 run down the stretch handed the Ragin' Cajuns a comfortable 77-71 lead with 16 seconds remaining.
 
Freshman Michael Thomas pump-faked and pivoted around defenders in the lane before sinking a critical layup with one and a half minutes left to put Louisiana up three.
 
ULM recorded a late 3-pointer before Dalcourt closed out the contest at the free-throw line.
 
Julien and Dalcourt were reasonable for 12 Louisiana's final 17 points.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns will begin thier final road trip of the season at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. The game will be available to be live-streamed on ESPN+.
