Louisiana Men's Basketball Set to Face ULM on Thursday

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball will travel to Monroe, La. to face ULM at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the first of the two programs' back-to-back rivalry matchups. The contest will be available to be streamed live on ESPN+.

Louisiana is looking to bounce back following a narrow 80-77 overtime loss to UT Arlington on Saturday.

Redshirt-freshman Kobe Julien totaled 19 points in the loss, all of which came after the first half, including 12 in the last three minutes of regulation and overtime. Julien has now scored 15+ points in three straight games.

Jordan Brown led the team with 22 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday. Brown has tallied six double-doubles this season and ranks eighth in the Sun Belt with 15.0 points per game.

Theo Akwuba returned to form last week averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Led by Brown and Akwuba, who rank third and fourth in the Sun Belt boards, Louisiana is third in the conference with 39.2 rebounds as a team.

Head coach Bob Marlin is in search of his 25th career victory over the Warhawks. Marlin, who has totaled over 430 Division I wins in his career, is 24-10 all-time against the in-state rivals.

ULM enters the Thursday night contest 13-13 including a 5-9 mark in conference. The Warhawks currently occupy the 10th position in the Sun Belt standings and are led by senior guard Andre Jones who is averaging 15.0 points and 4.0 assists this season.

Thursday will mark the 76th meeting between the two programs as Louisiana leads the all-time series 54- 21. The Ragin' Cajuns won the last matchup against the Warhawks 88-72 in Monroe, La. on Feb. 13, 2021.
ARC ASSASIN
Freshman Kentrell Garnett leads the Sun Belt Conference in 3-point percentage this season at 50.6 percent (no minimum attempts qualification). The second-year guard is averaging 7.8 points and 1.0 steals and was awarded a scholarship on Jan. 11.

On Feb. 3 against Little Rock, Akwuba passed Jakeenan Gant to move into fourth place on the school's all-time blocks leaderboard with 160 swatted shots.

Louisiana's 2021-22 roster features two second-generation talents in Julien and Brown. Julien's father Wayne was with the program from 1976-81 and was a member of the 1977 Southland Conference championship team.

Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.

He finished his career with 1,412 points and 926 rebounds (then second in school history) and helped then-USL to the championship of the 1982 Great Alaskan Shootout where he was named to the All-Tournament team.
