Fillat Gimenez Claims Another Sun Belt Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Louisiana

Boosted by the sweep in Lubbock, a Ragin' Cajun captures the award for the second consecutive week
LAFAYETTE - For the second consecutive week the Sun Belt Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor was awarded to a member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team with Oriol Fillat Gimenez being the recipient for his efforts in helping the team extend its winning streak, Feb. 11-12, in Lubbock, Texas.
The Ragin' Cajuns sophomore posted a 2-0 record in both singles and doubles – without dropping a single set – in helping lead Louisiana (7-1) to a sweep of Texas Tech and New Mexico State in Lubbock, which extended the team's current winning streak to six matches.
Both days, Fillat Gimenez and partner Vasil Dimitrov finished first in doubles, giving the Ragin' Cajuns a headstart on claiming the point. His win at No. 3 singles on Friday vs. Texas Tech's Reed Collier created separation and opened a 3-1 lead, setting up Louisiana's triumph over the Power 5 foe.
The weekend success extended Fillat Gimenez's personal winning streak in both singles and doubles to five games. For the spring 2022 dual match season, the Barcelona, Spain native sports a 6-1 record at No. 3 singles and stands 7-1 in doubles play at the No. 2 position with Dimitrov. He now owns 14 career victories in both singles and doubles.
Fillat Gimenez and his teammates return to action from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 18-19 competing in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions for men's tennis at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. Louisiana, guaranteed three matches in the event, begins tournament play on Friday at 9 a.m. vs. Abilene Christian (2-7) immediately followed by a meeting with either East Tennessee State (2-3) or Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-3) in bracket play at 2:30 p.m.Â
