No. 2-rated junior golfer in Ireland to join team in Spring 2023 campaign
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf Coach Theo Sliman announced on Thursday the addition of University of Illinois transfer Dylan Keating to the 2022-23 roster.
Â
Keating, who signed a Grant-in-Aid to play for the Ragin' Cajuns beginning with the Spring 2023 season, rated as the No. 24 U18 player in the European Golf Rankings and No. 2 in his native Ireland.
Â
"We are very excited to announce that Dylan will join our program this January," said Sliman. "From our very first phone conversation I felt a great connection with Dylan.
Â
"He is an accomplished winner with a work ethic and competitive mindset that will certainly elevate our program. I greatly look forward to getting Dylan on campus and getting to work. I am honored to have him join our University and Golf Program."
Â
As a freshman at Illinois in the 2021-22 season, Keating competed in three events on the season, including a start at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 4-6). He carded his lowest 54-hole score of the season in his collegiate debut as an individual competitor at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 223 (+13) to tie for 59th, closing the event with a 3-over 73 in Round 3, his lowest single round score of the year.
Â
On the junior circuit, Keating captured victories in the U16 Irish Boys Championship (2018), the Ulster U16 Boys Championship (2018), the Munster Boys Amateur Open (2019), the Connaught U18 Boys Open (2020) and the Ulster Boys Championship (2020).
Â
Keaeting won the Golf Union of Ireland's U18 Order of Merit in 2020, earning the GUI's Tom Montgomery Award.
Â
"I'm really looking forward to joining the Ragin' Cajuns Golf family and attending the University of Louisiana," Keating said. "Once I stepped foot on campus and saw the amazing facilities and faculty I knew this place was where I wanted to go. "Coach Sliman runs a great program and I'm excited to learn from him and play with his great team."
Louisiana will open the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule on Feb. 13-14 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
