Another Series Sweep Keeps Louisiana Rolling as October Concludes

Ragin’ Cajuns keeping pace in Sun Belt West heading into key showdown with Southern Miss
MONROE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team completed a second consecutive Sun Belt Conference series sweep, stretching its winning streak to four matches, with a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20) win over ULM on Saturday, October 29 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe.
The Ragin' Cajuns (13-8, 7-5 Sun Belt) used precision hitting with 52 kills on a .262 percentage and rode the hot hand of Coco Gillett who led the squad in kills (15), aces (7) and digs (21).
Louisiana's offensive efficiency proved to be the difference, with only 13 attack errors compared to the 25 the Warhawks (7-20, 0-12 Sun Belt) committed which included hitting into 11 Ragin' Cajuns blocks.
Aces from Gillett and Siena DeCambra sparked a quick 5-2 start to the match for the Ragin' Cajuns. Control was asserted when Gillett fired off a kill, dialed up an ace and Kara Barnes slammed home a kill to increase Louisiana's lead to 15-7 at the media timeout.
Louisiana locked up the opening set at a rapid pace out of the media timeout as a kill, ace, block, ace, block and ace – all in succession – stretched the advantage to 21-7.
ULM forged ahead for good early in Set 2 with back-to-back kills snapping a 5-all tie, then later used three kills to extend the lead back out after the Ragin' Cajuns closed within 19-15 after the media timeout.
The Ragin' Cajuns had no visions of surrendering the match lead, as Gillett picked up her sixth ace in a 3-0 start to Set 3, Mya Wilson and Lauryn Hill got the first of consecutive blocks that led to a 7-1 edge and a ULM timeout and Hill busted through the Warhawks block to make it 10-3.
Louisiana turned away the upstart Warhawks prior to the media timeout of Set 4. Celeste Darling hammered down an overpass to claim the lead for good at 13-12, then separation continued immediately as Gillett scored a kill and Darling was in on the block for a 15-12 lead at the timeout. Out of the timeout back-to-back scores made it 17-13 and the Warhawks could get no closer than two points the rest of the way.
The Ragin' Cajuns stretched their series win streak over the Warhawks to 10 matches dating back to 2019. Louisiana now owns a 31-5 lead in SBC matches with its in-state foe.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
With the 15 kills and 21 digs, Gillett picked up her second double-double in as many days in Monroe and fourth overall of the season. The seven service aces were one shy of equaling her career-best (8) set last weekend vs. ODU.
Barnes continued her sharpshooting at the net, scoring 10 kills without error on only 18 swings for an impressive .556 hitting percentage. She's now on a streak of three straight matches with double-digit kills on a .400-plus percentage.
Additional support on offense was provided by Hill, Darling, Wilson and Emery Judkins who each scored at least six kills.
Louisiana out-blocked ULM 11.0-5.0 with Darling leading a group of four players with multiple blocks by having a hand in a match-high five blocks.
Libero Paige Guidry rounded up 16 digs while setters Reka Kotorman (26 assists, 12 digs) and DeCambra (16 assists, 11 digs) both posted a double-double for the second straight day.

Louisiana wraps up its home schedule hosting Southern Miss at Earl K. Long Gym from Thursday-Friday, November 3-4. Both outings of the two-match Sun Belt Conference series are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home volleyball matches is free.
The Ragin' Cajuns will hold their Senior Night ceremony on Friday (Nov. 3), honoring the team's lone senior, Kelsey Bennett, prior to first serve.
