Men's Basketball Set for Conference Clash With Georgia State

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball returns to action to face Georgia State 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cajundome. The contest will be available to be streamed live on ESPN+.

After a narrow loss on Thursday, Louisiana bounced back with a pivotal 69-59 victory over then Sun Belt leader Troy on Saturday.

Led by Kobe Julien who tallied 17 points in 29 minutes, four Ragin' Cajuns scored in double figures in the win.

With the victory, the Ragin' Cajuns now hold a 3-1 record against the conference's top four teams.

Louisiana leading scorer Jordan Brown returns to the lineup this week after missing Saturday with an injury.

Brown is one of just 15 players in the nation this season to have record multiple 15+ point and 15+ rebound performances.

With the pairing of Brown and junior Theo Akwuba, the Ragin' Cajuns have been excellent rebounding this season. Louisiana ranks second in the Sun Belt with 39.8 boards per game.

After begin picked to finish at the top of the conference in the preseason coaches poll, Georgia State is winless in four games against Sun Belt opposition. The Panthers are 6-9 on the year and are led by senior guard Corey Allen who is averaging 15.0 points per game this season.

Jan. 24-30 is the annual Coaches vs. Cancer week across college basketball. The Louisiana coaching staff will be wearing specially designed apparel in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.

Louisiana's 2021-22 roster features two second-generation talents in Julien and Brown. Julien's father Wayne was with the program from 1976-81 and was a member of 1977 Southland Conference championship team.

Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.

He finished his career with 1,412 points and 926 rebounds (then second in school history) and helped then-USL to the championship of the 1982 Great Alaskan Shootout where he was named to the All-Tournament team.COACHES VS. CANCER
