Louisiana Men's Basketball Falls to UT Arlington

1/13/2022 11:32:00 PM | Men's Basketball

LAFAYETTE – Redshirt-freshman forward Kobe Julien totaled 20 points for the second consecutive game, but Louisiana Men's Basketball was unable to overtake UT Arlington, falling 83-73 Thursday night at College Park Center.

Julien converted 8-15 shots and added five rebounds to go along with his scoring output.

Junior guard Trajan Wesley and senior forward Dou Gueye each contributed 20 points with Wesley adding four assists and Gueye aiding the Ragin' Cajuns with five rebounds.

Freshman forward Joe Charles matched his career-high with 11 points and grabbed four boards on the night.

The two programs were evenly matched in the opening stretch as the score was knotted at 16 with nearly nine minutes elapsed. Julien and Gueye combined to score 14 of Louisiana's early offensive tally.

Charles broke the tie as the freshman absorbed contact and finished an acrobatic layup for his first points of the contest. The Carencro, La. native converted at the line and Ragin' Cajuns earned the first bit of separation with a subsequent 10-0 scoring run.

UT Arlington quickly responded with a 15-2 run of their own and took a five-point lead with three and a half minutes left in the first half.

Junior guard Jalen Dalcourt stopped the streak with a 3-pointer from the left corner, but the Mavericks knocked down a shot on their final possession and took a 39-33 advantage into the halftime break.

Julien stayed hot into the second half and scored an early five points that put the Ragin' Cajuns back in front after the opening five minutes.

Bolstered by offensive rebounds, UT Arlington went back in front held a slim lead for much of the second period.

Julien recorded a layup and converted a pair of shots at the charity stripe to cut the deficit to three with eight minutes remaining, but a game-tying 3-point attempt by junior guard Greg Williams, Jr. rattled off the rim.

The Mavericks followed up the miss with a 9-2 run and did not surrender their advantage for the remainder of the contest.

Louisiana will now travel to San Marcos to face Texas State at 4 p.m. Saturday. The game will be available to be live-streamed on ESPN+.
