Top Austrian junior is second newcomer to 2022-23 squad
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf coach Theo Sliman added his second newcomer during the 2022 Signing Period on Monday when Austrian Maximilian Feistmantl signed a National Letter of Intent.
Â
Feistmantl, who began playing competitive golf at age 7, was ranked 10th among Austrian junior golfers in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (1518) while going through schooling in both Scotland and Spain. Â Â
Â
The addition of Feistmantl is the second for the Ragin' Cajuns for the 2022-23 season, joining South African Malan Potgieter.
Â
"We are very excited to add Maximilian to our Ragin Cajun Family," Sliman said. "Not only is he a seasoned and accomplished player-winner, but he is also a strong student and mature young man. He has been on his own away from his home country of Austria since the age of 14 focusing on his schooling and golf."
Â
Starting at age 11, Feistmantl began to focus on Division I college golf in the United States and left his home country at 14 to move to the Loretto Boarding School in Scotland where he became part of the school´s golf team. For the last three years of high school, he enrolled at the Sotogrande International Boarding School in Spain, where he emphasized academically in both Economics and Business while improving his golf at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy.
Â
"I am totally excited and proud to have the chance to be part of the Ragin' Cajun Golf Team beginning in the Fall of 2022," said Feistmantl. "I am looking forward to be training and playing together with the team and having the support of Coach Sliman.
Â
"Louisiana is the ideal place for me to study Economics with International Business, to play for a great team and to be part of a grand community."
Â
Feistmantl posted four rounds in the 60's during the 2021 season and claimed a pair of events – the International Slovenian Junior Championship and the International Tyrolean Championship. With more than 300 rounds played on the national and international stage, Feistmantl was a member of the Austrian team in the Europeans Boys Team Championship which played in the first division in Denmark.
Â
He added a second-place finish in Spain's College Golfer Series and was 11th overall and the top amateur among 89 golfers at Toro Tour Spain.
Â
"With Austria in mind, we have had great rapport with our previous Austrian players and are very keen on this addition. Maxi is a fierce competitor that wants to win, a gritty character that will not give up and determined mindset will suite him well here on our program. I look forward to having him and Malan Potgieter on campus in August."
