Low Scores Propel Louisiana Golf at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Hinnant one stroke of overall lead; Ragin' Cajuns post fifth-lowest 36-hole score in school history
HOUSTON – Peter Hinnant posted a pair of rounds in the 60's to finish among the individual leaders while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team posted its best 36-hole score since the 2013-14 season after finishing the opening day of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday at Westwood Golf Club.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament will take place on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Louisiana, which posted a team score of 12-under-par 564 to finish in fourth place in the 17-team field, will tee off beginning at 8:20 a.m.
The Ragin' Cajuns will be paired in the final round with No. 49-ranked Houston with Hinnant competing with a group that includes first-day co-leaders William Holcomb of Sam Houston, Enrique Dimayuga of Florida Atlantic and Luke Long of Houston.

Fueled by Hinnant's 4-under 68 along with Bjorn Gudjonsson and Charlie Flynn each posting a 3-under 69, Louisiana fired a 9-under 279 to take the lead after the opening round for its 12th-best overall round in school history. Hunter Hammett added a 1-over par 73 in the opening round for the Ragin' Cajuns while Hudson Dubinski posted a 2-over 74.
Hinnant followed his opening round with a 3-under 69 in the second as Louisiana finished the day 10 strokes ahead of No. 26-ranked UTSA in fourth place. Dubinski added a 69 in the second round for the Ragin' Cajuns with Hammett carding a 73 with Flynn capping off the round with a birdie on No. 5 and an eagle on No. 6 to finish at 2-over-74.
Hinnant, who posted a 7-under 137 through the first two rounds, finished one stroke behind Holcomb and Dimayuga for the overall lead with Flynn and Dubinski each finishing tied for 17th at 1-under 143. Gudjonsson, who was 5-over through 16 holes in the second round before finishing with consecutive birdies, was tied for 25th in the overall standings for Louisiana at even-par 144.
Jake Marler, playing as an individual, posted scores of 74 and 70 to finish in a tie for 25th place in the 96-player field.
Sam Houston, co-hosting the tournament with Houston and Rice, claimed the first-day lead at 556 with FAU four shots back at 560. Houston (562), Louisiana and UTSA (574) rounded out the top five with No. 42 Arkansas State (577) in sixth followed by Rice (581), North Texas (582), Texas State (585) and Abilene Christian (585).
