LEADING OFFÂ
>> 16th-ranked Louisiana Softball continues its Spring Break road trip with three consecutive days of midweek games in Texas, starting on Monday, April 5 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Lamar in Beaumont.
Â
>> Play continues Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Huntsville against Sam Houston followed by a 6 p.m. outing at Houston on Wednesday, April 7.
Â
>> It's a Homecoming for southeast Texas natives Alissa Dalton (Cypress), Kendall Talley (San Antonio) and Casey Dixon (Willis).
Â
>> The Texas trek precedes a pivotal Sun Belt Conference showdown Friday-Sunday, April 9-11 in Troy, Ala., against the Trojans.
Â
>> Louisiana carries a 10-game win streak to Texas, the team's season-best streak and longest since the school-record 29-game streak of 2019.
Â
>> The 10-game Spring Break trip started with Louisiana posting a .369 average, 27 runs, 31 hits, 25 RBI and a .738 slugging percentage in the sweep of Georgia State – all season-high totals for a weekend series.
Â
THIS 'N THATÂ Â
>> Since the March 20 loss at UT Arlington, the Louisiana pitching staff has bounced back and held opponents to 10 runs (eight earned), 35 hits and a .151 average over the last 66 innings.
Â
>> The Ragin' Cajuns posted 10 home runs in the Georgia State series, led by the series-high four from Julie Rawls.
Â
>> Jade Gortarez has joined Julie Rawls in posting a recent power surge, homering four times in the past seven games.
Â
>> During her nine-game hitting streak (longest as a Ragin' Cajun and of her collegiate career), Kendall Talley is batting a team-leading .520 (13-for-25) with nine runs scored and five RBI.
Â
>> Ciara Bryan's latest hitting streak of six games marks the third time this season she's had a hit streak of that length. It began right after her career-best 17-game streak was snapped in the South Alabama finale.
Â
>> The 17-game hitting streak recorded by Ciara Bryan from Feb. 26-March 27 was the longest by a Ragin' Cajun since Brianna Cherry produced one the exact length during the 2013 season.
Â
>> The 12 hits recorded in the Georgia State finale marked the fourth time in the last five outings that Louisiana has reached double digits.
Â
>> Louisiana held a 27-3 advantage in runs and 31-8 margin in hits over GSU. It continued a week-long rise at the plate which saw the squad score 22 runs and produce 29 hits vs. Georgia Southern.
Â
>> In her last two starts, Kandra Lamb retired the side in order 11 times over 13 innings (Game 1 vs. GASO, Game 2 vs. GSU). In the prior start (Game 2 vs. South Alabama) she collected a career-high 12 strikeouts.
Â
>> Summer Ellyson has yielded just three earned runs over the last 36-1/3 innings pitched. Her resurgence began with 32-1/3 consecutive innings without an earned run allowed from March 20-April 2.

NUMBERS TO KNEAUX
15:Â Number of home runs the Ragin' Cajuns have hit over the last seven games
31:Â Ciara Bryan has reached base all 31 games. She sports a team-best .513 on base percentage
20-0:Â Louisiana's record when scoring five or more runs in a game this season
0.85:Â The pitching staff's ERA during the current 10-game win streak (spans 66 innings)
Â
A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Infield: The Ragin' Cajuns have one of the best infield units in the country as both Alissa Dalton (returning shortstop) and Jade Gortarez are on the field together on the left side, covering shortstop and third base. Sure-handed second baseman Kaitlyn Alderink leads the way in securing the right side. Georgia transfer Justice Milz took over at first base following the untimely injury to Taylor Roman. Melissa Mayeux will also be in the mix with the group, available to play at any position.
Â
Outfield: Returning center fielder Raina O'Neal (.329 average and nearly 30 extra base hits previous two seasons) is out for at least the regular season with an injury. Ciara Bryan has taken over in center field and is showing signs that she'll continue the performance that made her one of the most dynamic hitters in the nation during the COVD-19 shortened season. Kendall Talley and Frankie Izard have shared duties left field in recent weeks. Jenna Kean adds speed to the base path that rivals single-season stolen base record holder Keeli Milligan and has appeared to claim the right field position. Karly Heath is also in the rotation (primarily in right field), while Julie Rawls provides veteran experience for late-game adjustments.
Â
Pitchers: Efforts in the circle are led by Summer Ellyson once again. She led the nation in wins (39) in 2019, and was off to an 11-1 start (1.83 ERA) in 2020 with wins over Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Florida. Kandra Lamb has emerged as the front-runner for the No. 2 spot following solid outings in her first career starts against ranked teams (at Louisiana State, vs. Oklahoma State). Casey Dixon, Vanessa Foreman and Karly Heath provide added depth and options to shorten innings pitched for Ellyson and Lamb.
Â
Catchers: The mainstay from the past two seasons, Julie Rawls, is joined by Bailey Curry and Melissa Mayeux who trained at the position in preseason practice. Curry and Mayeux should allow for a rotation at the position which would prevent Rawls from having to catch every game to keep her fresh for the postseason. Rawls has led the Ragin' Cajuns in slugging percentage the past two seasons.
Â
