LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball gears up for a true Sun Belt Conference road test this weekend when it battles South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., for a three-game series starting on Saturday, April 17, and running through Monday, April 19. All three games will be available for streaming on ESPN+
The Ragin' Cajuns (20-12, 7-2 Sun Belt) sit atop the Sun Belt standings and are the only team in the conference to own 20 or more wins this season.
South Alabama (17–13-11, 5-4 Sun Belt) is coming off a midweek win against Southern Miss, who took three games from Louisiana. The Jaguars got swept last weekend by Little Rock.

Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List
Spencer Arrighetti was named to the USA Baseball 2021 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List on Wednesday afternoon. Arrighetti is one of 45 of the nation's top amateur players from the high school and college ranks to be selected for the prestigious honor. He is also just the fifth Ragin' Cajun to appear on the list since it was instituted in 2013, joining Caleb Adams (2014), Seth Harrison (2014), Blake Trahan (2015) and Gunner Leger (2017).
Monster COOKIE
Connor Cooke is coming off the best start of his career, spinning a complete game, two-hit shutout against Arkansas State. His outing helped him earn LWSA Pitcher of the Week and Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week. Cooke is the second Ragin' Cajun to earn SBC Pitcher of the Week this year, joining Spencer Arrighetti.
Heatin' Up
Louisiana currently leads the Sun Belt Conference in hitting during conference play. The Ragin' Cajuns are the only team in the league hitting above .300 (.309) and have tallied the most home runs (16), RBI (67), highest on-base percentage (.403) and have the highest slugging percentage (.533).
Geaux with Breaux
Brennan Breaux is starting to heat up at the plate for the Ragin' Cajuns. The senior is riding an eight-game hitting streak and hitting .367 during that span (11-for-30). During his hitting streak, four of his hits have been doubles, while he has driven in five runs.
Benny Bombs
Ben Fitzgerald was great last week at the plate. The junior went 6-for-14 with two home runs, five RBI and walked just as many times as he struck out. Fitzgerald's week at the plate put him in the top 5 in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging in the conference. His 10 total bases in Sunday's game against Arkansas Stated marked the first time a Cajun recorded 10 or more total bases since Hayden Cantrelle at Little Rock on March 16, 2019. Additionally, Fitzgerald was part of a trio that hit back-to-back-to-back home runs for the first time since 2001.
New lineup spot
In the past few games, Connor Kimple has batted in a new role for Louisiana, working in the leadoff spot. When Kimple bats leadoff for the Ragin' Cajuns, the team is 6-1. The junior is batting .367 (11-for-30) with three doubles, a home run and six RBI.
Scouting the enemy
South Alabama currently owns a 17-13 overall record and sits at 5-4 in Sun Belt play. The Jaguars are led by a stout pitching staff that ranks third in the conference in total ERA (3.86). Ethan Wilson is the player to watch out for on South Alabama. The Preseason Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year is a major draft prospect and labeled a D1Baseball Preseason First Team All-American.
Against Arkansas State
Louisiana has not played in Mobile, Ala., since the 2016 season, when it took two-of-three games from South Alabama. The Ragin' Cajuns are 6-4 against the Jaguars in their last 10 contests and have won the last two matchups against the ball club.
