Ragin’ Cajuns looking to claim Sun Belt Conference Regular Season title in final weekend
LAFAYETTE – With the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Conference already locked up, Louisiana has its sights set on securing the league's regular-season crown when it hosts Little Rock for the final two games of the regular season on Friday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, Feb. 27.
Â
Tip-off on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, with Saturday's game slated to begin at 4 p.m. CT. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and TalkRadio 960AM.
Â
The two teams have already faced off once this season, with Louisiana emerging victorious 54-45 on Jan. 25 to lock up the program's third-ever win in Little Rock. Destiny McAfee led the way in that contest with 14 points, while Skyler Goodwin added 12 points and eight rebounds against the Trojans.
Louisiana (12-5, 11-1 Sun Belt) has been extremely successful at home this season, boasting a 7-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record at home in league play. Makayia Hallmon is the team's leading scorer at home this year, averaging 12.9 points per contest, while Ty'Reona Doucet (11.4 ppg) and Goodwin (11.4 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
Junior Brandi Williams leads the team in scoring overall, boasting 12.1 points per contest. In the team's last game at ULM, Williams scored 32 points, making her the first Ragin' Cajun to eclipse the 30-point mark since Keke Veal recorded 34 points at Troy on Feb. 15, 2016.
Little Rock (13-8, 9-5 Sun Belt) enters the weekend coming off a shocking loss at ULM, but has won seven of its last nine games. The Trojans will turn to their seniors, Teal Battle and Krystan Vornes, to lead the charge this weekend.
Â
Battle is averaging 12.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest, while Vornes is nearly producing a double-double with 10.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Â
Louisiana and ULM will be meeting for the 39th and 40th time on Friday and Saturday, respectively, with Little Rock leading the all-time series, 26-12. Under head coach Garry Brodhead, the Ragin' Cajuns are 5-14 against the Trojans and are 2-7 against Little Rock at home in the Brodhead era.
On Friday, the team will hold its annual Alumni Game and recognize those that came before the current squad in this historic 50th Season. Saturday will be a celebration of Louisiana's five seniors: Doucet, Goodwin, Kimberly Burton, Kristen Daniels and Jomyra Mathis.
