Louisiana Men's Basketball to Face No. 14 Houston in Tuesday Night Showdown

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball travels to Houston to face the No. 14 ranked Houston Cougars at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be available to be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Louisiana enters the contest at 5-4 following a narrow loss to La Tech on Saturday.
 
Jordan Brown excelled in the Ragin' Cajuns previous matchup, scoring a career-high 30 points and recording six rebounds.
 
Last Wednesday, the Roseville, Calif., native recorded his sixth career double-double and his first in a Louisiana uniform, totaling 16 points and 16 rebounds against McNeese.
 
With the latest two performances, Brown leads the team and ranks 10th in the Sun Belt Conference with 14.3 points per game.
 
Louisiana has ramped up its defense in the past couple of matchups, the program is holding opponents to just 28.4 percent shooting from the floor which ranks third in the league.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns' reserves have excelled through the nonconference portion of the season. Louisiana has garnered 30 or more points from their bench on four separate occasions.
Playing its first ranked opponent this season, Louisiana is 10-43 against ranked opponents all-time including 9-32 against top 20 teams.

Houston is 8-2 on the season and is coming off an 83-82 loss to No. 6 Alabama. The Cougars' hot start continues upon their 2021 run to the Final Four. The team is led by junior guard Marcus Sasser who is averaging 18.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

SERIES NOTES
The game will mark the 17th meeting between the two programs with Houston holding a 10-6 lead in the all-time series. The Cougars are 8-1 at home while Louisiana is 4-0 in Lafayette. The teams last met on Dec. 14, 2013 with the Ragin' Cajuns prevailing 79-76 in overtime.

According to KenPom, the Ragin' Cajuns rank 13th in the nation and first in the Sun Belt in adjusted tempo this season, earning 73.6 possessions per game.

PLAYER TO WATCH: JOE CHARLES
Freshman Joe Charles earned his first career start on Saturday and scored a collegiate high 11 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Charles knocked down 4-7 shots from the floor, including a career-high three shots from beyond the arc. The Carencro, La, native is averaging 10.0 minutes per game through the first nine games.

LOUISIANA LEGACY
Louisiana's 2021-22 roster features two second-generation talents in Julien and Brown. Julien's father Wayne was with the program from 1976-81 and was a member of 1977 Southland Conference championship team.

Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.
 
He finished his career with 1,412 points and 926 rebounds (then second in school history) and helped then-USL to the championship of the 1982 Great Alaskan Shootout where he was named to the All-Tournament team.
