Louisiana seeking first win over Houston since 1999
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana puts its four-game winning streak and perfect road record on the line on Sunday afternoon when it travels to take on Houston. Tipoff from the Fertitta Center is set for 2 p.m.
It has been a strong start to the year for the Ragin' Cajuns on the road, who own a 3-0 record away from home early in the campaign. One of those wins came in Houston, a 73-69 victory at Rice on Nov. 13.
Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year Ty'Reona Doucet continues to lead the way for the team, averaging 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. Doucet is coming off a huge performance, notching her first double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 boards against Xavier (LA).
Makayia Hallmon is also averaging in double figures with 10.1 points per game, while Destiny Rice is contributing 9.7 points per contest and leads the team with 19 assists.
Louisiana's (6-1) success in non-conference play has been due in large part to its defense, which ranks 35th in the nation in scoring defense (54.0).
Houston (4-5) is coming off of a 72-65 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday, Dec. 9, and owns a perfect 3-0 record on its home floor. Laila Blair leads the way for the team, scoring 12.9 points per contest.
Sunday's showdown will be the 13th meeting between the two programs, with the Cougars leading the series, 10-2. Louisiana is searching for its first win over Houston since the 1999 season.
