Louisiana Men's Basketball Faces Next Chapter in La Tech Rivalry

LAFAYETTE – Following a pair of back-to-back victories at the Cajundome, Louisiana Basketball travels to Ruston, La. to face La Tech at 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPNU.
The Ragin' Cajuns defeated McNeese 83-68 earlier in the week to improve to 5-3 in nonconference play.
Sophomore Jordan Brown recorded his sixth career double-double and his first in a Louisiana uniform, totaling 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Brown is just one of 32 other players this season to record 16+ points and 16+ rebounds in a single game.
Redshirt freshman Kobe Julien could not miss in the first half, burying four 3-pointers and tallying 18 points.
The Ragin' Cajuns have punished opponents in the paint through the early season, Louisiana leads the Sun Belt Conference with 43.3 rebounds per game.
Second-year walk-on Kentrell Garnett has been the team's premier shot maker from beyond the arc. Garnett leads the conference with a .526 3pct. And ranks second with 2.5 3pg.
Entering Saturday, Louisiana is swatting 5.0 shots per game. Individually Julien (1.3), Theo Akwuba (1.2) and Brown (1.1) rank fifth, sixth and ninth, respectively, in the conference's blocks leaderboard.
La Tech comes into Saturday at 6-2 following back-to-back victories over Texas Southern and Santa Clarita. Freshman Kenneth Lofton, Jr. leads the Bulldogs with 19.4 points. Prior to the season Lofton, Jr. was named to the Karl Malone Award Watchlist as one of the nation's top power forwards.

Sophomore Jordan Brown, an offseason addition from Arizona, has dominated Ragin' Cajun opponents so far this season. Following his double-double performance on Wednesday, the Roseville, Calif. native leads the team and ranks 17th in the conference with 12.3 points per game. In addition, Brown ranks third in the league with 8.8 rebounds per contest.
LOUISIANA LEGACY
Louisiana's 2021-22 roster features two second-generation talents in Julien and Brown. Julien's father Wayne was with the program from 1976-81 and was a member of 1977 Southland Conference championship team.
Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.
He finished his career with 1,412 points and 926 rebounds (then second in school history) and helped then-USL to the championship of the 1982 Great Alaskan Shootout where he was named to the All-Tournament team.
