Louisiana Drops First Game of Cox Diamond Invitational to Samford, 12-4

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Louisiana was unable to overcome big second and third innings from Samford and fell to the Bulldogs, 12-4, at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Friday afternoon.Â
Starting pitcher Conor Angel was tagged with six runs in just two innings of work on Friday. Angel, who pitched a solid first inning, recorded a key double play to keep the Bulldogs (11-1) scoreless after the first.Â
Samford then broke it open in the second inning, going up, 5-0, thanks to walks and errors allowed by the Cajuns.Â
Connor Cooke replaced Angel and only gave up one earned run on the day. Cooke struggled to find the strike zone in the third inning, but settled down and struck out five batters.Â
Louisiana added runs in the fourth, eighth and ninth innings. Brennan Breaux followed up his three-hit performance at Rice on Tuesday by recording three more hits on Friday afternoon.Â
Seven other Ragin' Cajuns tallied hits in the game, while Connor Kimple and Nick Hagedorn each added an RBI. Kimple singled up the middle to score Julian Brock in the fourth, with Hagedorn plating Alex Hannie in the eighth.Â
On the hill, Louisiana used Jack Burk, Colton Frank, Caleb Armstrong and Austin Bradford throughout the rest of the game.
Louisiana returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it takes on Michigan State. First pitched in the first-ever meeting between the two programs is slated for 3 p.m.
