Ragin’ Cajuns looking to complete season sweep of the Jaguars

LAFAYETTE – Nestled between two, three-game homestands, Louisiana will make a quick trip across I-10 to Mobile for a Thursday night date with South Alabama. Tipoff from the Mitchell Center is slated for 6 p.m.

In what will be the 57th installment of the all-time series between two programs, the Ragin' Cajuns are looking to secure a season sweep of South Alabama for the first time since 2014 when they earned a 65-60 win in Mobile on Jan. 15, 2014, and a 68-61 overtime victory in Lafayette on March 2, 2014.

Louisiana (13-7, 6-3 SBC) picked up its first win over South Alabama on Jan. 9 in the Cajundome behind 17 points from Skyler Goodwin. The win sealed the team's third-straight win in a Sun Belt home opener and its first win over the Jaguars at home since 2017.

In their most recent outing, the Ragin' Cajuns lost at home for just the second time this season when it fell to Little Rock, 59-44, on Saturday, Feb. 1. Andrea Cournoyer led Louisiana with nine points against the Trojans, marking the first time since Dec. 30, 2018, against Mississippi State that Ragin' Cajuns did not have a player score in double figures.

To pick up a victory against a talented South Alabama squad, Louisiana will look to get its top two scorers back in the mix. Ty'Reona Doucet currently leads the squad with 12.7 points per game overall and a stunning 16.7 points per contest on the road, while Brandi Williams is producing 13.5 points per contest away from home.

South Alabama (10-11, 5-4 SBC) is looking to bounce back after falling on the road at Troy, 85-68, on Saturday, Feb. 1. On their home floor, the Jaguars are 7-6 this season and won its last game at home, 78-76, in double overtime over Texas State on Jan. 25.

Shaforia Kines leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game, while Savannah Jones (14.1) and Antoinette Lewis (13.6) are also contributing in double figures. Lewis, who was named the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging a double-double with her 13.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.

The Jaguars lead the all-time series, 39-17, and are 20-5 in Mobile over the Ragin' Cajuns all-time. Under head coach Garry Brodhead, Louisiana is 7-7 against South Alabama and owns a 2-4 record against the Jaguars in Mobile.
