Ragin’ Cajuns looking for their first win over the Chanticleers in Conway
CONWAY, S.C. – Riding a three-game winning streak and looking to continue to climb up the Sun Belt Conference standings, Louisiana will wrap up road play on Saturday, Feb. 29, when it faces Coastal Carolina. Tipoff from the HTC Center is slated for 1 p.m. CST.
Saturday's game will be a tall task for the Ragin' Cajuns (16-10, 9-6 SBC), which have never defeated the current league leaders in Conway and trail the Chanticleers in the all-time series, 3-2.
Despite the struggles in Conway, Louisiana has performed admirably on the road this year and is currently 8-6 overall and 5-3 against league opponents in games away from home. Ty'Reona Doucet has been lights out in road games, nearly averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 8.3 boards in those games, while Brandi Williams is contributing 12.4 points a game away from home.
The eighth win came in the team's last outing, when it held off a late Appalachian State rally in the fourth quarter with the help of clutch free throw shooting to defeat the Mountaineers, 57-51.
Doucet, who is averaging a team-high 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds on the season, led the way with 18 points and seven boards, while Williams poured in 12 points and junior Jomyra Mathis added 11 points.
Coastal Carolina has been on an absolute tear this year and has won its last nine games entering Saturday's clash with Louisiana. On the season, the Chanticleers are 24-3 overall and 14-2 in league play to sit atop the conference standings.
In its last outing on Thursday night, Coastal Carolina took care of ULM by a score of 88-69. In the game, Naheria Hamilton led the team with 25 points, while Torrie Cash contributed 23 points.
On the year, DJ Williams has been the team's statistical leader averaging a team-best 18.5 points per game, while Aja Blount ranks second on the team at 15.1 points a game. Hamilton is the team's leader on the glass at 10.0 rebounds per contest.
