SETTING THE SCENE
A week-long stretch of games with Top 10 foes begins for No. 7 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Austin, Texas, in a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader with No. 3 Texas at Red & Charline McCombs Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns (11-3) are winners of four straight games, three of the triumphs coming against No. 8 Oklahoma State and Ole Miss (twice) last weekend at the UAB Blazer Classic in Birmingham, Ala.

The matchup with the Longhorns (15-1) continues a stretch – which began on Feb. 15 vs. Louisiana State – where Louisiana plays 11 games against teams which advanced to the 2019 NCAA Super Regionals. The Ragin' Cajuns are presently 4-2 in the run of matchups which will have an impact on postseason implications.

Louisiana seeks to build upon the momentum its offense gained down the stretch in Birmingham. The squad hit .321, scored 23 runs and piled up 15 extra base hits in the four-game winning spree to close the weekend.

The All-American duo of Summer Ellyson and Megan Kleist will seek to slow down a Longhorns offense which carries a robust .422 average into the twinbill. Ellyson is coming off a strong weekend in Birmingham in which she tossed 19 innings and limited foes to three runs and nine hits en route to earning three wins and one save.

Louisiana and Texas are meeting in the regular season for the first time since a February 2014 tournament at Lamson Park. It's the first matchup in Austin since a March 2013 doubleheader.

Tuesday's games are being broadcast on Longhorn Network. Game 1 will air live, while Game 2 is set for tape delay at 10:30 p.m. the same evening.

QUICK HITS
  • Texas leads the all-time series 10-5, but the Ragin' Cajuns have had the upper-hand recently. Louisiana defeated the Longhorns twice to win the 2014 NCAA Lafayette Regional, and in 2016 the Ragin' Cajuns claimed the NCAA Regional winner's bracket final between the two programs.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns sport a 2-2 mark against ranked teams so far in the young season, splitting matchups with Louisiana State and Oklahoma State.
  • Nine different Ragin' Cajuns have posted at least one home run. Four individuals – Julie Rawls, Raina O'Neal, Sarah Hudek and Melissa Mayeux – have already hit multiple home runs.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns can cause havoc at any part of the lineup. There are 10 different individuals who have already amassed multiple RBI.
  • Sarah Hudek comes into the Texas doubleheader as the team's hottest hitter. She turned in two multiple-hit and two multiple-RBI games on the final day of the UAB Blazer Classic, ending the day 4-for-7 at the plate with six RBI.
  • Louisiana has utilized 14 different lineups in as many games played, a credit to the depth inside the team's dugout.
  • It's been a tag team approach in the circle with reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Summer Ellyson and 2018 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Megan Kleist alternating starts. The duo has limited foes to 17 earned runs, 49 base hits and surrendered only 17 walks over a combined 89-2/3 innings pitched.
  • Since her first start of the season back on Feb. 7, the lone runs that Summer Ellyson has allowed have come via home runs. Opponents have needed home runs to scratch seven of the nine she's allowed this season.
  • Dating back to the 2019 season, in which she led the nation in victories (with a 39-6 mark), Summer Ellyson sports a 46-6 record with a 1.12 ERA over her past 59 appearances
  • Megan Kleist surrendered just three earned runs over her first five starts. In her last start against a ranked foe, she held Oklahoma State to one hit.
  • A mere two weeks into his third season as a collegiate head coach, Gerry Glasco collected his 100th career win overall and with Louisiana. The milestone triumph came Feb. 15 vs. Louisiana State at Lamson Park. Glasco's career marks stands at 104-25.
  • Louisiana is in the midst of the 40th season in program history, one founded by NFCA Hall of Famer Yvette Girouard back in 1981. At 1,694 all-time wins, Louisiana ranks No. 5 among all-time NCAA D1 Softball's winningest programs.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns were preseason ranked in the Top 10 for the sixth time since 2000. Starting off at No. 8 in the D1Softball and Softball America polls, it's was the program's highest preseason nod since 2009.

UP NEXT
No. 7 Louisiana makes its way to Gainesville, Fla., for a three-game weekend series with Top-10 ranked Florida (16-2) scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The series will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
