Women’s Tennis Suffers First Loss of Season

LAFAYETTE – The Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team was defeated by the University of Illinois-Chicago on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. Louisiana drops to 8-1 on the year and UIC gets to 4-2.
Louisiana started doubles play with a win as Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic won its match against UIC's pair of Karyna Bihel and Izzy Marshall, by a score of 6-4. Despite the next two doubles matches each going to a tiebreaker, Louisiana fell in both to lose the doubles point and go down 1-0 heading.
Illinois-Chicago captured the first singles point of the match to take a 2-0 lead. Louisiana's Clara Mantaux got the Ragin' Cajuns on the board with a dominating victory over Marshall in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. UIC followed up with another win to go up 3-1.
Radovanovic added a Louisiana win as she defeated Georgia Gulin, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, cutting the UIC lead to 3-2. Illinois-Chicago took the next singles point to seal the match 4-2, handing the Ragin' Cajuns their first loss on the year.
Louisiana Women's Tennis plays again on Tuesday, Feb. 25 as it will take on the Chicago State Cougars. CSU will host the match in Chicago, Ill. and it's set to start at 12 p.m.
