QUICK HITS
- Friday's contest with North Dakota marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- Samford returns to Lamson Park for the first time since serving as the opposition for the initial game of the Gerry Glasco era (game played Feb. 8, 2018).
- For the first time since 2001, Louisiana meets Louisiana State in a regular season setting. The Ragin' Cajuns and Tigers have met numerous times in NCAA Regional competition since that last regular season matchup (April 2001 at Lamson Park).
- Entering the weekend, Louisiana head coach Gerry Glasco is three wins shy of his 100th career win overall and at Louisiana. Now is his third season, Glasco sports a 97-23 mark.
- Reigning NFCA All-American Summer Ellyson is showing early glimpses of the dominance displayed the previous two seasons. In her last two starts, she's surrendered a single run and base hit over 10-2/3 innings combined, capped off by a six-inning perfect game thrown Tuesday vs. Lamar.
- Summer Ellyson and fellow All-American Megan Kleist, have combined for 49 strikeouts and yielded just six walks in 29-2/3 innings pitched. The duo has combined to surrender only three earned runs and 16 base hits.
- The Ragin' Cajuns have received run production from numerous individuals, most recently six different batters collecting an RBI vs. Lamar. Through five games, seven individuals have already generated multiple-RBI.
- Julie Rawls' home run vs. Lamar on Tuesday made her the first Ragin' Cajun this season with multiple home runs. She has launched two of the team's seven home runs thus far.
- Kendall Talley made a statement in her first start as a Ragin' Cajun, posting an RBI double and triple on Tuesday vs. Lamar.
- Louisiana has utilized five different lineups in as many games played, a credit to the depth inside the team's dugout.
- Kaitlyn Alderink showed she could be the next "go-to" base stealer, after swiping three bags on Opening Day. She collected stolen base No. 4 on Tuesday.
- Perhaps the feel-good story of the start of the season is infielder Brittany Holland, who suffered season-ending knee injuries each of the previous two seasons, returning to the field at third base. Her Opening Weekend performance was highlighted by a grand slam vs. UTSA.
- One of the most sure-handed shortstops in the nation, Alissa Dalton has fielded 12 chances thus far without error. Dating back to last season, Dalton has played 31 consecutive error-free games (67 chances).
- Louisiana is in the midst of the 40th season in program history, one founded by NFCA Hall of Famer Yvette Girouard back in 1981. At 1,687 all-time wins, Louisiana ranks No. 5 among all-time NCAA D1 Softball's winningest programs.
- The Ragin' Cajuns were preseason ranked in the Top 10 for the sixth time since 2000. Starting off at No. 8 in the D1Softball and Softball America polls, it's was the program's highest preseason nod since 2009.
