Ragin’ Cajuns looking to extend winning streak over Cowgirls to six games

LAFAYETTE – After a tough defeat to North Texas in its season opener, Louisiana is looking to bag its first win of the 2020-21 season when it welcomes in-state rival McNeese State to the CAJUNDOME. Tipoff is slated for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Currently on a five-game winning streak over the Cowgirls, the Ragin' Cajuns (0-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) are also eyeing their first win on Education Day since Dec. 20, 2017, when it defeated Alcorn State, 67-47.

Senior Ty'Reona Doucet continues to be a leader on the court for the team, posting her 16th career double-double with 15 points and 10 boards against North Texas. Fellow senior Jomyra Mathis led the team in scoring in the 83-74 loss with 18 points.

McNeese State enters the game having not won a game this season, including a 68-67 home defeat to East Texas Baptist in its most recent outing on Thursday, Dec. 3.

Through three games this year, the Cowgirls are led by Claralee Richard, who is averaging 11.7 points per contest. Callie Maddox is also contributing double-figure scoring at 10.3 points per contest.

The two program's will be meeting for the 47th time on Wednesday morning, with McNeese State leading the all-time series 28-18. Louisiana has won the last five matchups, including a 75-55 decision at home on Nov. 14, 2019.

The CAJUNDOME will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020-21 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.

Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020-21 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home games.

To celebrate the program's 50th season, fans can purchase season tickets at the $50 price point season tickets by visiting RaginCajuns.com/WBBTix and will also be able to enjoy in honor of the special season.
