Louisiana Rings in New Year with Pair of Games at Texas State

Ragin’ Cajuns will start league play on the road for the eighth-straight season
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women's Basketball opens the New Year and Sun Belt Conference play on Jan. 1 & 2 when it travels to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State. Tipoff for both games will be at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Ragin' Cajuns (1-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) will play six of their first eight league games away from home and have started Sun Belt play on the road in every season since 2013-14.

With a win on Friday night, Louisiana will secure its second-straight win in a Sun Belt opener after last season's 75-65 victory at Georgia State on Jan. 2, 2020. Under head coach Garry Brodhead, the team is 3-5 in conference openers.

Junior Brandi Williams leads all scorers on the team with 12.0 points per game through non-conference player, while Ty'Reona Doucet (10.6) and Skyler Goodwin (10.4) join Williams in double figures.

Texas State (3-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak with wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar. The Bobcats' other victory of the season came on Dec. 3 at SMU, a 74-70 overtime victory.

Junior Da'Nasia Hood is nearly averaging a double-double on the year with 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Kennedy Taylor has added 12.2 points per contest this season.

The all-time series between the two programs is tied at 10 games apiece, with Louisiana owning an 8-6 record over Texas State in the Brodhead era. The Ragin' Cajuns have also won the last two meetings, including a 70-64 victory on March 7, 2020 in Lafayette.
