Louisiana Heads to Baton Rouge for In-State Showdown

Ragin’ Cajuns seeking first win over the Tigers since 1974
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana is set to face its first road test of the season against in-state opposition when it heads to Baton Rouge on Monday, Dec. 14, to take on LSU. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
The Ragin' Cajuns (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) were originally slated to play its first road game of the season at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, Dec. 12, but the contest was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Lions' program.
On Wednesday, Louisiana notched its first win of its 50th season by storming past McNeese State 80-48, its largest margin of victory in the series. Makayia Hallmon led the way in the contest with a career-high 16 points.
Hallmon, who has opened the season with back-to-back double-digit scoring performances, leads the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game, while Jomyra Mathis (13.0 ppg), Ty'Reona Doucet (12.0 ppg) and Brandi Williams (10.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures.
LSU is looking for its first win of the season after starting the season with an 0-3 record. In its last outing, the Tigers dropped its home opener, 58-48, to UCF.
Khayla Pointer is currently the only Tiger averaging in double figures at 10.3 points per contest. Faustine Aifuwa is nearly averaging a double-double this year for LSU, recording 8.7 points and 8.0 boards through the first three games.
Monday's matchup will be the first time the two teams have met since Dec. 20, 2018, a game that the Tigers won, 76-54. Louisiana will be looking for its first win over LSU since March 2, 1974, when it won, 48-40.
