LAFAYETTE - In this Q&A feature article, you will get to "Kneaux" men's tennis' Xandy Hammitt. Hammitt spent time at Drexel University before coming to Louisiana.
Where are you from and how did you first hear about the University of Louisiana?
I am from a suburb of Philadelphia Pennsylvania called Media, but I most recently lived and went to school in downtown Philly. I first heard about the University of Louisiana when Coach Jeffrey contacted me after I placed my name in the transfer pool.
How many family members do you have, and how have they played a role in you getting to Louisiana?
I have a sister, a mother and a father. The decision to transfer to UL was made almost exclusively by myself.
What is the typical food from your region?
The food up north is similar to down here just without the spices (flavor). If you go to Philly, you need to try a classic Philly cheesesteak.
What is your favorite thing to do away from the tennis courts?
I love to travel and go on spontaneous adventures. In the confines of the college athlete life, I like to play videogames and do yoga in my free time.
What is the most difficult thing to adapt to while here in Louisiana?
I have noticed a lot of differences in cultures, but the hardest for me to adapt to so far has been the patience and slow speeds that people move at down here. I'm used to the hustle and bustle, people not worried about others and just about getting to where they want to be as quickly as they can.
What is the outlook for you and the Men's Tennis Team this year?
I think the tennis team looks really strong this year, and I think with a lot of hard work we should be pushing for the conference title.
What are some expectations for yourself this tennis season?
I just want to improve as much as I can as a well-rounded tennis player during my first year here. The athletic culture and demand is on a different level to my previous school (which I love), and that is going to allow me to reach new heights that weren't possible at my previous University.
