Ragin’ Cajuns Battle to the End in Tough Matchups at OU Invitational

Louisiana challenged by Power 5 foes Arizona State and Georgia Tech in season’s first road outing

NORMAN, Okla. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball began a stretch of three straight matchups with Power 5 foes at the Oklahoma Nike Invitational on Friday, falling in three sets to both Arizona State and Georgia Tech.

Both matches played out the same, with the Ragin' Cajuns (4-5) finding their footing in the third set and narrowly missing a chance to extend the match.

In the day's first contest, Arizona State captured a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-21) win by virtue of a sharper performance on offense. The Sun Devils (5-2) hit .291 as a team compared to a .062 clip for Louisiana.

The Ragin' Cajuns battled through three lead changes in the early stages of the opening set, but ASU changed the momentum when a 9-1 run opened up a one-point affair. In the third set, a Hannah Ramirez ace and misplaced set cut the ASU lead to 19-18, but three straight points gave the Sun Devils just enough separation to end the contest.

Georgia Tech claimed a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) decision in the nightcap, but not without withstanding a pair of rallies from the Ragin' Cajuns. Louisiana rallied within 15-12 in the second set before the Yellow Jackets (6-1) made a late push, then forced a GT timeout late in the third frame at 23-22.

LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Hali Wisnoskie and Dree'Ana Abram provided the bulk of the offense vs. ASU, tallying eight and six kills, respectively.

For the eighth straight match Louisiana reached the 50-dig mark led by 14 digs from Avery Breaux. The Ragin' Cajuns out-blocked the Sun Devils by a 4-2 count, charged by Abram and Tia Jade Smith who each threw up two blocks.

Ramirez posted 11 digs marking her sixth straight match with double digits. Lexi Hebert made it three straight matches in double figures by collecting 10 digs.

Abram sparked the Ragin' Cajuns turnaround in the third set with Georgia Tech as she landed four kills in the frame. Freshman Claire Turner provided a boost off the bench, handing out five assists in the stanza running the 6-2 attack with Breaux.
