Temple originally signed with IUPUI; will have four years of eligibility remaining

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Friday that 2019 Mississippi Class 5A Player of the Year Calvin Temple signed a Grant-in-Aid to play for the Ragin' Cajuns beginning in the 2019-20 season.

A MHSAA Class 5A first team all-state selection, Temple averaged 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steals in 2018-19 as a senior at Center Hill (Miss.) High. He led the Mustangs to a 31-3 record and the Mississippi Class 5A state title where he was named the game's MVP after scoring 24 points and grabbing eight boards.

Temple was selected as USA Today's Mississippi Player of the Year earlier this year, was a first team pick on the Memphis Commercial Appeal's All-Metro Team and a two-time member on the Jackson Clarion Ledger's Dandy Dozen team, touting the top 12 players from across the state of Mississippi.

"Calvin is a young man who values the culture aspect of our program," Marlin said. "He is a relentless worker, proven winner, and competitor. His multiple on-court abilities along with his intangibles will fit a need for our program this season, and as we build for the future."

Temple, a 6-foot guard, originally signed with IUPUI out of high school before being released from his scholarship last month due to a coaching change. The Olive Branch, Miss., native will have four years of eligibility remaining with the Ragin' Cajuns.

Louisiana will officially tip off its season on Nov. 5 against Loyola of New Orleans at the Cajundome.

Season tickets for the 2019-20 season, with seats beginning at $100, are available on-line at RaginCajuns.com using Account Manager, or by calling the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at (337) 265-2170.
