Ragin’ Cajuns defended the Green Wave tough, holding them to a weekend-low hitting percentage
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball forced Tulane to fight through its lowest hitting percentage of the weekend to claim a straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) win in the final match of The DoubleTree Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.
Louisiana (0-3) out-dug Tulane (3-0) by a 50-49 count, forced 30-plus attack attempts each set and held the visitors to 13 kills or less in all three frames. After hitting .316 on Friday, the Green Wave was limited to a .215 percentage.
The Ragin' Cajuns kept pace offensively, with Tulane holding just a 36-30 edge in kills, however errors limited the productivity of the offense.
Quick starts in the second and third set forced the Green Wave to rally and end the match in three sets. Louisiana claimed the first two rallies both times putting Tulane into recovery mode.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Desiree Johnson scored her weekend-best of nine kills, tying her for match-high honors with Tulane's Lexie Douglas and Erika Hansel.
Julia Angelo supplied six kills and freshmen Kara Barnes (5 kills) and Celeste Darling (4 kills) added nine more to the Louisiana offensive attack.
Hannah Ramirez took her turn starting at libero and wound up with a match-high 19 digs – the most recorded by a Ragin' Cajun in the season-opening weekend event.
