Senegal native chose Cajuns over offers from SEC, Big 12 and Big East
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Friday that DouDou Gueye (pronounced DOO-DOO GUY-ay) signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Ragin' Cajuns beginning in the 2019-20 season.

Gueye, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward, will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing last season at Daytona State (Fla.) College and in Japan as a freshman in 2017-18.

In his lone season at DSC, Gueye averaged 11 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game where he was a first-team All Mid-Florida Conference selection. The native of Dakar, Senegal, shot 50 percent from the floor and 38 percent from behind the 3-point line while scoring in double figures in 20 games during the season.
"Dou has a chance to be a special player over the next two years. He checks the boxes for what our program wants as a Ragin' Cajun student-athlete both on and off the court." Marlin said. "He has the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways and is a great competitor."

Gueye recorded eight double-doubles on the season for DSC and received offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Seton Hall, St. John's and East Carolina.
Prior to Daytona State, Gueye was the national player of the year in Japan's university basketball in 2017-18, where he averaged 25 points and 13 rebounds per game.
"Dou is a special person and is an extremely gifted basketball player," Daytona State head coach Brock Morris said. "He also happens to speak five languages and was the scholar athlete of the year in our conference. He grew up in Senegal, moved to Japan for high school and his first year of University Basketball. He learned the American game quickly, and had great success for us this season."

The addition of Gueye marks the sixth signee to the 2019-20 Louisiana roster, joining former DSC teammate Durey Cadwell (Houston, Texas), plus Javonne Lowery (Pearland, Texas), Chris Spenkuch (Miami, Fla.), Mylik Wilson (Rayville, La.) and junior Tirus Smith (Richton, Miss.).
