Louisiana heads back to Baton Rouge next Saturday for LSU Invitational
BATON ROUGE – Junior Claire Meyers recorded a personal-best in the women's javelin along with the third-best throw in school history in the event as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team set five personal-bests to wrap up competition on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Juliette Smith, Sean Bouzigard, George Femmer and Zach Lewis each posted personal-bests in their respective events as the Ragin' Cajuns posted nine top-five finishes. The meet, which included nearly 30 teams from across the south, was the first of two straight events for Louisiana in Baton Rouge with the Ragin' Cajuns scheduled to compete at next week's LSU Invitational.
Meyers, who set her personal-best (148-8) at last week's Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge, posted a throw of 151 feet, 9 ¾ inches on her final attempt to finish third overall. The junior moved past teammate MacKenzie Marze (150-11) into third place on the Ragin' Cajuns all-time list and third overall among Sun Belt Conference athletes.
Bouzigard, who also set a personal-best in the men's javelin (199-4) last week in his 2019 debut, surpassed the 200-foot mark for the first time in his career after recording a throw of 205-8 ¼ on his first attempt. The junior finished fourth in the event and became the second SBC athlete to eclipse 200 feet this season.
Lewis earned a sixth-place performance for Louisiana in the men's shot put, posting a career-best mark of 52-10 ¼. Femmer, competing in the men's 5,000-meters, finished fourth overall for the Ragin' Cajuns after crossing the finish line in a personal-best 15:37.79.
Smith recorded the fifth PR of the day for Louisiana after she finished third overall in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.17 seconds, eclipsing her previous best (14.38) that was set last week.
Tyler Hughes earned a second-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles for Louisiana, posting a time of 14.35 seconds with freshman Obdarius Ware finishing fifth overall in the men's long jump (23-6).
Freshman Rylan Theyard earned a pair of top-10 finishes for Louisiana, placing fifth overall in the men's triple jump (47-0 ¾) before recording a seventh-place performance in the high jump (6-7).
Frankie Griffin added a third-place finish for Louisiana in the women's high jump after clearing the bar at 5-8, while Teresa Bruning was fourth overall in the women's 1,500-meters (4:56.22).
