SETTING THE SCENE
10th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball completes its East Coast road trip to North Carolina with weekday contests at Campbell and UNCG.

The last leg begins Monday in Buies Creek, N.C. against Campbell in a 4 p.m. (CDT) game and will be followed by a 5 p.m. (CDT) outing in Greensboro, N.C. with UNCG. Both matchups are slated to be televised on ESPN+.

Louisiana (37-4) began the road trip in Boone, N.C., with a three-game Sun Belt sweep of Appalachian State which was capped off with a 23-run explosion in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. Those results stretched the Ragin' Cajuns current win streak to 14 games.

Gerry Glasco's squad also brings a 14-game road win streak and nation-leading 15 road wins into the two-game set with the Camels and Spartans.

No. 10 Louisiana is entering the final stretch of the regular season as only three weeks of play and 12 games total remain before the postseason.

CAMPBELL SERIES HISTORY (Louisiana leads, 2-0)
  • First meeting in Buies Creek, N.C.
  • Lone prior meeting came on March 16, 1996 at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park with Louisiana claiming a doubleheader sweep.
UNCG SERIES HISTORY (First Meeting)
  • First-ever matchup between the Ragin' Cajuns and Spartans.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Infield: Louisiana is anchored on the left side by two of the best infielders in the country in senior third baseman Kara Gremillion and junior shortstop Alissa Dalton – both career .950-plus fielders. Returning starting second baseman Casidy Chaumont and Keeli Milligan have taken turns starting at the position. At first base, returning starter Kourtney Gremillion and Toledo transfer Bailey Curry share time at the position.

Outfield: Texas A&M transfer Sarah Hudek shifted to left field at the start of Sun Belt play (March 8 at Texas State). Texas Tech transfer Raina O'Neal, who sat out due to transfer rules in 2018, is making her Louisiana debut in center field and has started each game at the position. In recent weekends, Lexie Comeaux and Kourtney Gremillion have filled the right field spot when Keeli Milligan started at second base. Morgan Gray and Aeriyl Mass provide a boost with their speed and spend time in right field as a defensive replacement.

Pitchers: Preseason Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Summer Ellyson is back as Louisiana's lead pitcher. Ellyson, a 20-game winner who ranked Top 40 nationally in all major pitching categories in 2018, is currently the national leader in victories (25) and the Sun Belt's leader in strikeouts (218). Sophomore Carrie Boswell and freshman Kandra Lamb of Australia have been the first out of the bullpen and the starting pitchers when Ellyson rests. Fifth-year senior Alison Deville and sophomore Casey Dixon add additional depth.

Catchers: Senior Lexie Comeaux and Northwestern State transfer Julie Rawls, converted to the position from the outfield, serve as the Ragin' Cajuns' main catchers. Comeaux fills the designated player role, and occasionally plays in the outfield, in order to keep her bat in the game. Rawls has seen the bulk of the playing time behind the plate in order to continue her development.

NOTABLE STREAKS AND TRENDS
  • With the sweep of Appalachian State, the Ragin' Cajuns moved to 18-0 in Sun Belt Conference play matching the best start in conference history first established by the 2001 squad and equaled in 2004.
  • Now with 15 true road victories, Louisiana surpassed Virginia Tech (14) for the national lead.
  • Louisiana totaled 23 runs and 23 hits in the twinbill sweep of App State, its highest output in a two-game stretch since the final two games of the South Alabama series (March 23-24).
  • Alissa Dalton finished Saturday's doubleheader a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate. The performance raised her season average to a team-leading .421.
  • With two multiple-hit games, Alissa Dalton moved into a tie with Julie Rawls for the team-lead with 13. Dalton has picked up nine multiple-hit games since March 20, recording a .574 average (27-for-47) during the stretch.
  • Keeli Milligan became the fourth Ragin' Cajun to reach 40 hits, with her season-high four-hit effort on Saturday, joining Alissa Dalton (48), Sarah Hudek (42) and Raina O'Neal (42). Milligan is batting .433 (13-for-30) over the past 10 games bringing her season average to .333.
  • Two-out production was critical on Saturday at App State. The seven-run outburst following the weather delays in Game 1 all came with two outs and built the momentum for the sweep.
  • Louisiana has produced 99 two-out RBI, charged by 16 from Alissa Dalton and 15 from Julie Rawls.
  • Summer Ellyson (25-4, 1.09 ERA) is the current nation leader in wins. The total represents a new career-high figure, surpassing the 23 posted in 2018.
  • Summer Ellyson's first strikeout on Friday was her 200th of the season. She reached the 200-mark for the second straight season (220 in 2018).
  • Now with 218 strikeouts, Summer Ellyson is two shy of equaling her personal single-season best. The junior right-hander is also only 39 strikeouts away from the 500th of her career.
  • Over the past 79 innings (since March 24), the Louisiana pitching staff has allowed only 10 earned runs. During the stretch the staff sports a 0.89 ERA, has surrendered only seven extra base hits and held foes to a .164 average.
  • Alison Deville turned in a second scoreless relief outing of the week (2.0 IP Saturday at App State). Deville, who pitched the final 1-2/3 innings vs. Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, finished the week with 3-1/3 innings of scoreless softball pitched and posted six strikeouts.
  • On Wednesday, Kelli Milligan joined Dorsey Steamer as the only two individuals in program history to reach 40 stolen bases. Now with 42 steals (in 46 attempts), she is a mere 10 swipes from breaking Steamer's record 51 set back in 1992.
  • Louisiana's offense includes eight players with 30-plus hits, eight with multiple home runs, eight with 20-plus RBI and 10 hitting above .300.
