Louisiana Takes Series with 4-2 Sunday Win Over Little Rock

3/17/2019 5:45:00 PM | Baseball

Austin Perrin struck out a career-high eight batters to earn his first win of the season

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – It wasn't quite the offensive barrage that Louisiana saw on Saturday afternoon, but the runs that it did score were just as effective as the Ragin' Cajuns took the series over Little Rock with a 4-2 decision on Sunday.

Louisiana (9-11, 2-1) outhit Little Rock, 9-6, with all nine of the team's hits being singles. Senior Hunter Kasuls had three of the hits against Little Rock, with Hayden Cantrelle and Orynn Veillon adding two each.

On the hill, sophomore Austin Perrin (1-2) had a big day with a career-high eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. Perrin allowed just five hits in the game. Jacob Schultz, who was the only other pitcher used on Sunday, gave up just one hit and struck out one in 1.2 innings of action to claim his first save of the year.

A ground ball off the bat of Kole McKinnon in the second and a fly out by Breaux in the third saw Louisiana take the early 2-0 lead in the contest. That advantage doubled in the fifth when Handsome Monica grounded out to score Cantrelle and Veillon singled to left to score Kasuls, putting the Ragin' Cajuns in front, 4-0.

Things were looking good for Louisiana until the eighth inning when Little Rock (6-14, 1-2) pushed two runs in and threatened to score more with two runners on before Schultz sat down the final batter.

The Ragin' Cajuns then made quick work of the Trojans in the ninth, forcing a fly out and two ground balls to end the game at 4-2 and secure the series victory.

Louisiana returns to action at home on Tuesday, March 19, when it welcomes in-state foe Northwestern State to M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Cox Sports Television (CST) and ESPN+.
