The Ragin’ Cajuns have taken the last two series between the two programs
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana baseball will get Sun Belt play underway this weekend, March 15-17, when it heads north to The Natural State for a three-game series with Little Rock at Gary Hogan Field. Game times are set for 6 p.m., on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (7-10) are looking to carry momentum over from Wednesday night's extra-innings thriller in which senior Orynn Veillon blasted a home run over the left-field wall to give the team a 6-5 victory in 12 innings.
Â
Through the first 17 games of the season, Brennan Breaux (.317) and Hunter Kasuls (.310) have led the offense, combining for 18 hits, 12 RBI and 51 total bases. Hayden Cantrelle's bat has continued to heat up, as he is currently on a five-game hitting streak and has reached base at least once in all 17 games this season.
Â
The weekend rotation for Louisiana is still listed as TBA, but a Gunner Leger start on Friday would see him set the school record for starts in a career at 53, moving him ahead of Hunter Moody and Eric Templet.
Â
Little Rock (5-12) is coming off its fifth win of the season, a 5-1 victory over Central Arkansas away from home. Ryan Benavidez leads the Trojans this year with a .375 (16-for-72) average with a team-leading five home runs and 11 RBI.
Â
The Trojans' rotation is also TBA.
Â
Louisiana leads the all-time series over Little Rock, 57-21, and is 52-20 against the Trojans under head coach Tony Robichaux. The last time the two programs played in Little Rock, the Ragin' Cajuns swept the Trojans with wins of 9-4, 7-4 and 5-3.
