Louisiana Moves Up, Returns to Top 10 in National Softball Polls

@RaginCajunsSB holding steady among the nation’s best
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball made a move in the Week 5 national polls which included a return to the Top 10 in the USA Today/NFCA listing.

After a road series sweep of Texas State to begin Sun Belt Conference play, the Ragin' Cajuns (19-3, 3-0 Sun Belt) jumped one spot up to No. 10 in the NFCA ranking, returning to the position occupied Feb. 19-25.

Gerry Glasco's squad also climbed one spot in the ESPN/USA Softball chart to No. 11, returning to the season-high spot in that poll as well.

The Ragin' Cajuns, preseason ranked No. 15 (NFCA) and No. 18 (ESPN), remained in the Top 15 portion of the major national polls for the fifth consecutive week.

Dating back to April 2013, Louisiana Softball has been included in 90 consecutive releases of the Top 25 polls.

A solid weekend at Texas State was punctuated by a 4-1 win over Baylor on Monday led by a season-high 17 strikeouts from Summer Ellyson, three hits from Julie Rawls and two RBI by Kourtney Gremillion.

No. 11 Louisiana travels to Thibodaux, La., on Wednesday for a midweek contest at Nicholls (12-12) set for 6 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex. The game will air on KROF-960 AM with Steve Peloquin and Bobby Neveaux on the call.

The Ragin' Cajuns are then back at Lamson Park March 15-17 for the Sun Belt home opening series, and Alumni Weekend, hosting Troy (18-8, 2-1 Sun Belt).
