Louisiana Wraps Up Non-Conference Play at Jackson State

Ragin’ Cajuns eyeing best non-conference finish since 2016-17 season
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana wraps up the non-conference portion of its 2019-20 schedule on Sunday, Dec. 29, when it heads to the state of Mississippi for the second-straight weekend to face off with Jackson State.
Having matched their win total from a season ago and sealed their best start through 10 games since 2016-17, the Ragin' Cajuns are looking to create positive momentum ahead of Sun Belt Conference which begins next week.
The squad is coming off one of the most notable wins in program history, defeating Ole Miss, 53-42, in Oxford. The victory was the team's third-ever win over an opponent from the SEC and its second against Ole Miss.
Junior Ty'Reona Doucet recorded 16 points and seven rebounds for the Ragin' Cajuns in the victory, with Skyler Goodwin and Jasmine Thomas each contributing eight points.
Free throws, as they have been for the squad all season, played a major role in Oxford after Louisiana went 20-for-24 at the charity stripe. Louisiana now has 160 made free throws this season, the 38th most in Division I.
Through 10 games this season, sophomore Brandi Williams leads the team with 13.9 points a contest. Doucet ranks second in scoring with 12.4 points per game and leads the team with 71 rebounds.
Jackson State enters Sunday's contest with a 1-8 record and is currently riding a six-game losing streak, the last four coming on the road. In its most recent defeat, the Lady Tigers fell to Illinois State, 77-55, on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Dayzsha Rogan led the way in the loss to Illinois State with 14 points, while Ameshya Williams fell one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Marneisha Hamer leads Jackson State's offense by averaging 13.9 points per contest this season, with Rogan ranking second on the squad at 10.0 points per contest.
Louisiana and Jackson State will be meeting for the sixth time dating back to 1991 when the two programs face off on Sunday afternoon in Jackson. The Ragin' Cajuns lead the all-time series, 4-1, and is 1-0 against the Lady Tigers in Jackson. Under head coach Garry Brodhead, Louisiana is 4-0 against Jackson State.
