Rebels are one of two SEC opponents the Ragin’ Cajuns have defeated in program history

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana will play an SEC opponent for the second-straight game following its Dec. 16 matchup with No. 15 Mississippi State when the team travels to Oxford, Mississippi, to take on Ole Miss on Friday night.

Entering Friday's game with a 2-11 all-time mark against SEC opposition, the Ragin' Cajuns will look for their second win over the Rebels, the first coming on Nov. 15, 2015, when Louisiana defeated Ole Miss, 82-78, in Oxford.

In its most recent outing, Louisiana gave No. 15 Mississippi State all they could handle before falling to the Bulldogs, 64-48, on Monday. Kimberly Burton led the way for the Ragin' Cajuns with 10 points.

Despite not shooting the ball well in the loss, Louisiana enters the contest against Ole Miss with the 25th-best 3-point shooting percentage in the country at 37.4 percent. Sophomore phenom Brandi Williams, who is the team's leading scorer with 14.8 points a game, also leads the way behind the arc with 12 made triples on the season.

Ole Miss enters Friday's game with a 6-5 overall record and is coming off a thrilling, 69-66 overtime victory over Georgia Southern at The Pavilion at Ole Miss, snapping a three-game losing streak.

In the win over the Eagles, Valerie Nesbitt led the charge with a team-high 16 points and six assists, while Torri Lewis added 14 points of her own. As a team, the Rebels shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) from the floor and an even more impressive 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from long range.

Deja Cage leads the Rebels in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per contest, while Nesbitt is just on her heels, averaging 12.0 points a game.

Louisiana and Ole Miss will be meeting for the seventh time dating back to 1974 when the two programs face off on Friday evening. Ole Miss leads the all-time series, 5-1, and is 4-1 against the Ragin' Cajuns in Oxford.
