Louisiana Volleyball Outlasts ULM in Barnburner at Fant-Ewing Coliseum

@RaginCajunsVB stole the match’s momentum with a late third-set push
MONROE – With a 9-2 scoring spree to close the third set win – which gave the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team the match lead – the aggressive attack from ULM was deflated leading to an easy fourth set win that wrapped up Friday's Sun Belt Conference match at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Louisiana (11-15, 7-6 Sun Belt) which erased a 19-16 deficit with the match hanging in the balance during the third-set momentum shift, stormed out to an 8-0 lead in the fourth frame leaving no doubt of the 3-1 (28-30, 25-19, 25-21, 25-14) outcome in favor of the visitors.
The win, coupled with UT Arlington's five-set loss at home to Arkansas State, moved the Ragin' Cajuns back into sole possession of second place in the Sun Belt West Division standings – a coveted spot which guarantees a Top 4 seed in the conference tournament.
True to form of recent meetings between the two in-state foes, ULM (11-18, 1-12 Sun Belt) made Louisiana work for the win. With 94 digs in the contest, the Warhawks pushed the Ragin' Cajuns until an offensive edge of 30-20 in kills over the final two sets took over.
The intensity was high from the first serve as the two team battled through several momentum shifts, 18 ties and eight lead changes before the Warhawks won the opening set in extra points.
The recipe for the final dagger was what drew the Ragin' Cajuns even in the all-important second stanza. Louisiana scored the first four points, rolled out to a 12-4 lead, and when the hosts closed in at 15-14 it was three straight kills from Celeste Darling that provided ample breathing room.
Louisiana avenged a three-set loss to ULM in Monroe last November, and remained in control of its own destiny in the SBC Tournament seeding race.
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Once again it was Hali Wisnoskie driving the offense with a match-high 19 kills – the seventh straight outing with double digits for the two-time All-Sun Belt performer. The production moves her within 15 kills of a third consecutive 300-kill season.
Darling generated 17 kills and led all of Louisiana's attackers with a .333 hitting percentage. Dree'Ana Abram returned to double digits in kills with 10 scores off her 25 swings.
Abram also tallied three blocks to push her career total to exactly 300. She became only the third Ragin' Cajun, who has played in the rally scoring era, to reach the mark (joins Kim Rodgers and Chanelle Garnder).
Tia Jade Smith continued to dominant on the front line throwing up a match-best seven blocks (1 BS, 6 BA). She also supplied seven kills on just 18 attempts.
Avery Breaux turned in her best all-around performance running the 5-1 attack, handing out 46 assists while scooping 20 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. She shined at the service line, serving out the critical third-set run and following up serving out the first eight points of the match-clincher.
Hannah Ramirez rounded up her Division I career-high of 29 digs in leading her team to a season-high 104 digs (26 digs per set). Kelsey Bennett (18 digs), Wisnoskie (11 digs) and Milayne Danna (10 digs) also reached double figures.
