Louisiana Officially Tips Off Hoop Season Against Loyola

Ragin' Cajuns open 106th season of men's basketball; host No. 17 Wolf Pack

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball team officially tips off its 106th season of intercollegiate basketball on Tuesday when it welcomes in-state opponent Loyola of New Orleans to the Cajundome.
 
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be available at ESPN+ and can be heard in the Lafayette area on KHXT 107.9 FM, ESPN 1420 AM and the ESPN 1420 app. Live results will be available at CajunStats.com.
 
Season tickets for the 2019-20 campaign are currently on sale at the Louisiana Athletics Box Office at the Cajundome, by phone at (337) 265-2357, or on-line at RaginCajuns.com/MBBTix.
 
Louisiana, which finished 19-13 last season, returns a pair of starters and five letterwinners from last year's team. Junior guard Cedric Russell, a preseason third-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, is Louisiana's top returning scorer with senior P.J. Hardy also returning.
 
Mason Aucoin, Trajan Wesley, Kristian Lafayette also return for the Ragin' Cajuns, while a pair of Baton Rouge natives – Jalen Johnson (transfer) and Kobe Julien (injury) – will receive significant playing time after each sitting out last season.
 
Mylik Wilson, the 2019 Louisiana Class 2A Player of the Year, Javonne Lowery, Chris Spenkuch and Calvin Temple are among a group of talented newcomers for Louisiana, which also includes juniors Dou Gueye and Tirus Smith.
 
Loyola (3-0), ranked No. 17 in the preseason NAIA poll, finished 22-12 last season before opening the 2019-20 season with wins over Southeastern Baptist College (118-79), Southern of New Orleans (96-74) and Carver College (143-103). The game against Louisiana will count as an exhibition game for the Wolf Pack.

• Louisiana opens its 106th season of basketball on Tuesday against NAIA opponent Loyola.
• The series with Loyola dates back to the 1930-31 season. The schools were charter members of the former Gulf States Conference with Loyola a member of the league from 1948-52.
