LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball wrapped up the fall season playing 18 innings against Tulane on Sunday, Nov. 3 at M.L. 'Tigue' Moore at Russo Park. The Ragin' Cajuns took game one - a nine-inning contest - by a score of 6-2. Tulane claimed the three, three-inning situational contests, scoring 11 runs while holding the Ragin' Cajuns to a combined one run on five hits.
The Ragin' Cajuns started Carter Robinson, pitching the first two innings of the game. Robinson had a solid outing throwing two scoreless innings. Robinson gave up a double to start the second inning, but pitched out of it to complete his scoreless outing.
The Ragin' Cajuns picked up two runs in the second frame thanks to an RBI double from Nick Hagedorn and a single up the middle from Sebastian Toro.
Conor Angel entered the game in the third inning and pitched two dominate frames striking out four batters. Like Angel, Jeff Wilson followed with two scoreless innings of his own as the Ragin' Cajuns led 3-0 after the sixth inning.
Louisiana added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning courtesy of a Hagedorn home run to right field. Hagedorn ended the first game going 3-for-4 with a double, HR and two RBI.
The pitching staff had a wonderful day only surrendering two runs in the eighth inning. The Green Wave tried to start the comeback picking up two runs in the eighth inning, but it fell short after Connor Cooke pitched out of a jam. Cooke ended up pitching the ninth inning and earned the save in game one. Since it was a fall game, Louisiana batted in the ninth inning and added two runs off RBI singles by Hayden Cantrelle and Brennan Breaux and won the game 6-2.
First 3
Cooke continued to pitch into the next game but was replaced by Austin Bradford. Bradford got into a little bit of trouble giving up a couple a base hits as Tulane took a 2-0 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns offense was held in check and did not score a run in the first of the three, three-inning games and fell 2-0.
Middle 3
The format of the second game started with Tulane leading by a score of 1-0. Jacob Schultz earned the start, pitching two scoreless frames for the Ragin' Cajuns. One of the highlights was Carson Jones turning a nifty double played to double off the runner at first base on a line drive.
Tulane notched three runs in the top of the "ninth" and Louisiana could only generate one run with the bases load and one out. Tulane took the middle three innings 4-1.
Final 3
Tulane plated five runs in the final three frames and Louisiana saw pitching performances from Grant Jebbia, Brock Batty, Will Moriarty, and Dax Ford.
Louisiana will open the season against Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 14 at home.
