Louisiana Heads West for Monday Night Showdown at Lamar

Game will be the final of five-straight matchups against Southland opposition
LAFAYETTE – Riding a three-game winning streak and coming off its first road win of the season, Louisiana will make a quick drive to Beaumont, Texas, on Monday afternoon to face Lamar at the Montagne Center.

The matchup will be the fifth-and-final game of Louisiana's run against opponents from the Southland Conference. After dropping the opening game against Sam Houston State (77-73), the squad has won the last three games against the Southland, including its most recent, 65-60, victory over New Orleans on Thursday, Nov. 21.

Junior Ty'Reona Doucet led the offense in the win over the Privateers, recording her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while also contributing three blocks and three steals. She was joined in double figures by Brandi Williams, who also scored 21 points, her second-straight game going over 20 points.

Williams is currently the team leader in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per contest, while Doucet is second on the team with 13.4 points a game. Doucet also leads the team with 7.8 boards in the five games.

As a team, free throws and 3-pointers have been key to the offenses success. Louisiana is currently 13th in the nation in made free throws with 91 on the year, while its 39.7 percent shooting percentage (25-for-63) is tops in the Sun Belt and 26th in Division I.

Lamar enters Monday's game with a 1-3 record and is coming off a difficult 90-28 defeat against Baylor in Waco. Through four games this year, the Cardinals are averaging 54.3 points per contest and are shooting just 29.8 percent from the floor.

Amber Vidal leads the way for the Cardinals, averaging 12.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Vidal is joined by Angel Hastings, who is contributing 12.0 points a game.

Louisiana and Lamar will be meeting for the 63rd time on Monday evening when the two teams meet up in Beaumont, Texas, with Lamar leading the all-time series, 41-21. The two teams last met on Nov. 6, 2018, in the Cajundome, with the Cardinals leaving Lafayette with a 79-77 victory.
