Men’s Tennis Signs Oriol Fillat Gimenez

LAFAYETTE – Oriol Fillat Gimenez has signed a NLI to play tennis for the University of Louisiana, head coach Mark Jeffrey announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Fillat Gimenez hails from Spain and holds an ITF World Tennis singles ranking of 2,017. This is the first signee for the Ragin' Cajuns since the signing period opend on November 13.
"We are super excited about Oriol coming to our University for Fall 2020," Jeffrey said. "This guy is a very mature 17-year-old who handles himself very well on and off the court. His maturity has led him to defeat many opponents among the top-150 ranked juniors in the world. I really see Oriol among the top-100 next year before he comes to college."
Fliiat Gimenez has defeated more than 10 opponents with a ranking of 1500 in the ATP or better and has a professional rankings of No. 2000 in world. He recently qualified for the main draw of the Futures Event in Spain, the toughest region in the world.
"This again lends to our guys to aspire and attain a high ATP ranking while working within our program," Jeffrey explained. "We have a great nucleus of high level players that are young and will only get better. I want to say that Oriol's family and coaches are some of the finest people you will ever meet, so we are very motivated to go to work for Oriol and his family."
Louisiana begins its 2020 spring season when it travels to West Florida on January 7 for a dual beginning at 3 p.m.
