@RaginCajunsVB recovers from slow start to storm past Little Rock and claim third straight victory
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball overcame early adversity before settling into a rhythm and collecting a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) win over Little Rock in the opening contest of a four-match homestand at Earl K. Long Gym.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (8-14, 4-5 Sun Belt) dug out of a 6-0 deficit and battled their way back to a positive hitting percentage – after being the negative range until set point – in claiming the first set win which placed the team on the path to its third consecutive triumph.
Â
Louisiana turned the intensity up on offense the remainder of the match, firing off 29 kills on a .362 hitting percentage in putting away the Trojans (3-17, 1-7 Sun Belt).
Â
Identical 8-4 starts set the tone for Louisiana in the second and third set, before a critical push created sufficient distance.
Â
In the second frame it was a Hali Wisnoskie kill and a pair of Tia Jade Smith scores that triggered at four-point spurt and increased the edge to 12-4. The Trojans would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Â
The tide in the third set swung heavily in favor of the Ragin' Cajuns after Smith and Celeste Darling teamed up for a pair of kills increasing the edge to 12-6. After a Little Rock sideout, the final blow was a 5-1 run which featured four Louisiana kills that extended the lead to 17-8.
Â
With the win Louisiana kept pace with Arkansas State (13-7, 4-4 Sun Belt) for second place in the Sun Belt West Division – spot which guarantees a berth in the SBC Tournament.
Â
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
The one-two punch of Dree'Ana Abram and Wisnoskie continued to be the theme for Louisiana. Abram scored a match-high 12 kills, landing the final seven on just 15 swings.
Â
Wisnoskie found the floor for a kill 11 times giving her double figures for the third straight match.
Â
Timely kills were provided by Smith who had seven on only 12 swings and Celeste Darling who scored six off 17 swings.
Â
Smith was the star of the defensive effort with four block solos. She had a hand in all but one of the Ragin' Cajuns five stuffs.
Â
Paced by 18 digs from Hannah Ramirez the Ragin' Cajuns totaled 52 digs and reached their season per set average. Avery Breaux and Kelsey Bennett contributed nine digs each.
Â
Darling tied her season-high in service aces with a pair helping lead Louisiana to a 4-2 edge.
