@RaginCajunsWT Drops First Match Of Season, 4-3, To McNeese State

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women's Tennis (3-1) dropped its first match of the season, when in a match that started on Jan. 22, but was postponed due to weather, the Ragin' Cajuns fell 4-3 to the McNeese State Cowgirls (1-3), Wednesday afternoon at Cajun Courts.
Despite dropping the match Louisiana put up a fight across both days the match was competed, with junior Clara Mantaux and Dana Radovanovic pairing up to come back from being down 5-1 in doubles to win the doubles point for Louisiana back on Jan. 22. Mantaux carried her momentum into today's action winning her singles match in straight sets and freshman Ai Noa Fabre snagged a singles win as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): McNeese State took the first match in doubles, but Louisiana responded with a 6-3 win from the pairing of Fabre and sophomore Morgan Forshag against Charlotte Ziegler and Sofia Moreno. The next match, and deciding match, was were all the excitement happened as trailing 5-1, Mantaux and Radovanovic began to storm back against Marija Mastilovic and Charoline Erlandsson.
As the rain drops fell, the Louisiana duo slowly crawled back into the action, and soon enough they were leading 6-5 having come all the way back. The McNeese State pairing then won the next game to force a tiebreaker, which the Louisiana pair took 7-5, to complete the comeback 7-6(5) and give Louisiana the doubles point.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Singles began shortly after the doubles point, but so did the rain and it meant that the match that had started on Tuesday, Jan. 22, was postponed until Wednesday, Jan. 30. The action picked up right where it left off, and McNeese State would take the first singles match to tie things up at 1-1.
Fabre then took down Ziegler in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 to push Louisiana back in the lead. Sophomore Floriane Picaut fell at No. 1 to Giovanna Fioretti, 6-2, 6-4, to tie it back up at 2-2.
Mantaux then locked up her match at No. 4, with a solid 7-6(4), 6-2 win over Moreno and it gave Louisiana a 3-2 lead over the Cowgirls. Unfortunately for Louisiana that would be the last match that the Ragin' Cajuns would take on the day as Radovanovic dropper her match at No. 2 to Erlandsoson in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 to give McNeese State the tying point.
The match was decided at No. 5, with Louisiana junior Marina Rodriguez Garcia entrenched in a battle with Carlotta Romito. Garcia took the first set 6-3, but Romito took the next set to push the match to a deciding third-set.
It was in that set that Romito broke Garcia several times to create a lead that Garcia could not work back from. But Garcia did beat off three match points, to force the score to 5-4, but Romito finished the match in the next game to come away with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 clinching win for McNeese State, who came away with the 4-3 win.
UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana next hits the road for the first time this season with a trip to Natchitoches, La., to face the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Saturday, Feb. 2, with that match scheduled to start at noon.
