Junior Jamie Fraser won the first Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week Award in the 2019 season
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Tennis junior Jamie Fraser, following a 13-0 start to the season, has been named the first Men's Tennis Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference offices on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
FIRST SINCE VLAD: Fraser becomes the first member from Louisiana to win SBC Player of the Week since Vlad Kramarov earned the honor on Feb. 14, 2018. Much like Kramarov, Fraser is the first men's tennis player to earn the honor in the conference as this is the first time the award has been given out this season.
WHAT A START: Fraser has been key to Louisiana's hot start to the 2019 season, going 8-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles. While he has played primarily at No. 4 singles, going 4-0 in that slot, he has locked down two big wins for Louisiana over the first month of the season.
In Louisiana's big win over Nebraska at the Florida State Invitational, Fraser clinched the match for the Ragin' Cajuns with a three-set comeback win over Isaac Nortey. The win meant that Louisiana locked up its first win over a Power Five program since 2012 and it sparked a six-match winning streak for Louisiana.
Against Penn State, in the first round of the Jerry Simmons Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., Fraser again stepped up to the plate for Louisiana. Once again storming back from down a set, to win in three sets over Alp Sentay, completing a three-match comeback for Louisiana to force the match to a deciding doubles point.
Overall Fraser has completed two three-set comeback wins in singles, and in doubles he has a big win under his belt as well. Against New Orleans, when paired up with senior Arthur Libaud, Fraser helped Louisiana clinch the doubles point with a 7-6(5) win over Mats Westkamp and Misha Fomenkov.
