LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Tennis begins the 2019 season with a trip, for the third-straight year, to the Florida State invitational where Louisiana will begin the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 12 with a matchup against North Florida, and first serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. CT.

FACING NORTH FLORIDA: North Florida, who won the 2018 Atlantic Sun Conference, enter 2019 picked in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll to repeat as conference champions.  All-time North Florida is 2-1 against Louisiana, but in the last meeting between the two teams, Louisiana won 4-3 on Feb. 9, 2016 at North Florida and this will be the second time in both programs histories that they will meet at the Florida State Invitational.

LOUISIANA'S PATH TO A CHAMPIONSHIP: Louisiana would need to win three matches to bring home the trophy, and a win against North Florida would mean that they would face the winner of Nebraska and Florida Atlantic.  A win in the semifinals would mean that they would face either FSU; UNO; UAB; or Florida A&M in the championship match.

TOP TEAMS IN TALLAHASSEE: Louisiana will be joining a tough collection of competition in Tallahassee, Fla., starting with the hosting Florida State Seminoles who enter the season ranked No. 20 in the nation.  Along with FSU, six other teams make up the eight teams total at the tournament.

The other six programs who are at the tournament are New Orleans, UAB, Florida A&M, North Florida, Nebraska and Florida Atlantic.  Meaning that there are two Power Five programs that Louisiana could face-off with over the weekend.

RETURNING FAMILIAR FACES: Louisiana returns everyone from last seasons' squad, except the graduated Vlad Kramarov.  That means senior Arthur Libaud; juniors Silvio Cocito-Monoc, Pearse Dolan, Jamie Fraser and Elio Lago; sophomores Pierce Gilheany and Dominik Koenig will join incoming freshmen Kacper Dworak, Jan Galka and Marko Vujic.

Louisiana, who finished last season 18-10 and did reach a national ranking of No. 70 during the season, returns three All-Sun Belt Conference student-athletes.  Lago was named 2018 Second-Team All-Sun Belt in singles and Gilheany and Dolan were named 2018 Second-Team All-Sun Belt in doubles.
