Louisiana limits Jaguars to sub-.100 percentage and hits double digits in aces

BATON ROUGE – Paced by season-high totals of 10 aces and 14 blocks Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball defeated Southern University 3-1 (25-16, 25-10, 27-29, 25-16) on Tuesday at Clifford Seymour Gym.

Louisiana (6-2) nearly doubled the Jaguars in kills (27-14) and held the hosts to a negative hitting percentage over the first two sets in building the lead.

Southern (0-7) landed 17 kills in the third set and fought off a late rally from the Ragin' Cajuns to win in extra points and extend the match. Louisiana wasted little time grabbing the momentum in the decisive fourth frame, scoring five kills and an ace in racing out to a 6-1 lead.

With five blocks down the stretch of the fourth set, Louisiana was able to stretch out its 16-9 lead and finish off the Jaguars.

The two programs met in Baton Rouge for the first time since October 2010.

Louisiana began its final stretch of non-conference road outings. The string of seven straight matches continues the next two weekends in Fort Worth, Texas (Sept. 7-8) and San Diego (Sept. 14-15).

LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Nia Antoine topped the offensive effort with her season-high of 13 kills. Hali Wisnoskie continued her season-opening stretch with double digits in kills, landing 10.

Dree'Ana Abram was the leading blocker with six blocks (1 BS, 5 BA). Desiree Johnson added five blocks and Kelsey Bennett had a hand in four blocks.

Sydney Davis, who had a match-high of 20 digs, led a quartet of Ragin' Cajuns with multiple service aces, registering three. Abram, Antoine and Avery Breaux each had a pair of aces.

Davis reached the 20-dig mark for the second straight outing and pushed her career total past 1,600. Lexi Hebert (14 digs) and Breaux (12 digs) joined her in double figures.
