LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to host 30 home games during the 2019 season and face seven teams that advanced to the postseason a year ago as head coach Tony Robichaux announced the schedule on Tuesday.

"It's never easy to put together a good schedule because it is all done so far in advance," Robichaux said. "You have to be able to protect your RPI by playing good opponents, but at the same time make sure we protect the investment that our fans have made in our program by bringing good opponents in to Russo Park. Bab (Anthony Babineaux) has done a great job with scheduling and this year looks to be another challenging schedule for us."

For the second straight season the Ragin' Cajuns open the season against Texas. The Longhorns visit Lafayette for a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park from Feb. 15-17.

After a five-game road swing, which includes a series at Sam Houston State (Feb. 22-24), Louisiana will host Maryland (March 1-3) and Loyola Marymount (March 8-10) in the final two non-conference weekend series of the year.

"This year we have three really good non-conference teams coming in for weekend series," Robichaux added. "The series against Texas will be a tough one to start the year. They are a program that made it back to the College World Series a year ago. Both Maryland and Loyola Marymount are programs with tradition and compete at a high level."

Notable non-conference midweek contests include home-and-home series with Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss and Tulane and a matchup with LSU (April 16) in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic.

"One of the things that we always look to do is play the best from our area," Robichaux said. "We had the third best non-conference strength of schedule a year ago, and that's due in part to the great baseball programs in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. We've always made it a point to play the local teams, and in turn it has helped us with the RPI."

The Ragin' Cajuns open Sun Belt Conference play March 15-17 at Little Rock. Louisiana will also head to Troy (March 29-31), UT Arlington (April 18-20), Coastal Carolina (May 3-5) and ULM (May 16-18) in league action.

The Cajuns host Appalachian State in the Sun Belt home opener on March 22-24. Louisiana will also face Arkansas State (April 5-7), South Alabama (April 12-14), Texas State (April 26-28) and Georgia State (May 10-12) at Russo Park.

The 2019 Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament will be hosted by Coastal Carolina at Springs Brooks Stadium from May 21-26.
