Top Finishes In Singles And Doubles Wraps Up @RaginCajunsWT's Weekend At Islander Open

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Freshman Ai Noa Fabre collected a title in doubles, and singles, while sophomore Floriane Picaut finished second in the singles top draw for the second straight season, giving Louisiana Women's Tennis a solid finish to a successful weekend at the Contender CrossFit Islander Open.

FABRE DOUBLES UP: Fabre, who snagged two wins on Saturday, finished the weekend undefeated in both doubles and singles, had to finish up what she started in the Fish Draw, by winning her championship matchup with UT-Rio Grande Valley's Ana Platisa.  Fabre did just that, holding off and attempts by Platisa to get into the match, with Fabre coming away with the 8-6 win to give Louisiana a singles championship.

In doubles Fabre, who was partnered with Garcia, the opponent was the Texas A&M-Kingsville duo of Carvajal and Donkor.  But after winning two matches on Friday, including a marathon that ended in a 7-6(12) tiebreaking win, the Ragin' Cajuns pair picked up where they left off, winning the match, 6-4, to give Louisiana a championship in doubles.

PICAUT MAKES A DEEP RUN: In the Ocean Draw, considered to be the top draw of the singles portion of the tournament, Picaut made it all the way to the finals.  It is a repeat of the 2017 Islander Open when Picaut made the same exact run in the top draw of the tournament.

Unfortunately, for Picaut and the Cajuns, much like last season Picaut dropped the championship match.  This year it was against Lamar junior, Jasmin Buchta, with Picaut falling 8-6.  But once again Picaut proved she can play with the best, reaching the finals at the Islander Open for the second straight year.

LOUISIANA PLACES HIGH: Louisiana had three finish in third place of their respective draws in singles, with sophomore Dana Radovanovic taking down AMUK's Valerie Ruiz, 8-5 in the Beach Draw.

Junior Clara Mantaux knocked off Incarnate Word's Sara Djurdjevic, 8-4, to take third place in the Palm Tree Draw and sophomore Morgan Forshag fought off AMUK's Maya Donkor in a tiebreaker, winning the match 8-7(8) to finish third in the Turtle Draw.

Garcia finished strong to come away with a fifth-place finish in the Wave Draw when she took down AMUK's Julia Rauer, 8-5.  Freshman Hoda Habib rounded out Louisiana's weekend with a fifth-place finish of her own in the Turtle Draw, taking down UIW's Alejandra Landaluce, 8-5.

UP NEXT: Louisiana returns to Lafayette to host its lone fall tournament of the season, when over the weekend of Sept. 28-29, several teams will come to Cajun Courts for the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational.
