@RaginCajunsVB Claims Pair of Sweeps in Home Debut

Louisiana off to undefeated start in Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball made its home debut on Friday and began play in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic at historic Earl K. Long Gym with straight set sweeps of Mississippi Valley State and Nicholls.
Louisiana (4-1) made quick work of MVSU, firing off a .452 hitting percentage in completing the sweep (25-10, 25-4, 25-6) in 53 minutes. In the nightcap the Ragin' Cajuns weathered advances from Nicholls, overcoming deficits all three sets, before eventually scoring the sweep (25-21, 26-24, 25-22).
LEADING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
Hali Wisnoskie extended her season-opening streak of double-digit kill outings to five, posting 10 in both matches.
Hanna Rovira hit above .450 in both matches, highlighted by a nine-kill effort off 17 swings against Nicholls.
Sydney Davis was the leader in digs for the day, claiming match-high honors with 14 vs. Mississippi Valley and 17 vs. Nicholls. Her efforts helped Louisiana hold a decisive advantage in both contests (45-24 vs. MVSU, 54-44 vs. Nicholls).
The Ragin' Cajuns blocking efforts were led by Nia Antoine who finished the day with nine blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE
- Louisiana used dominant starts in each of the three sets against Mississippi Valley State. The Ragin' Cajuns raced out to a 15-5 lead in the opening set, began the second set with an 11-1 spurt and pulled away in the third set with eight unanswered points that led to a 11-2 advantage.
The Ragin' Cajuns had five players land at least five kills and limited the Devilettes to only 10 kills and a -.090 hitting percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. NICHOLLS
- In an opening set of scoring spurts, it was Sydney Davis who served five consecutive points to lift Louisiana out of a 14-11 deficit and onto the match lead. The Colonels threatened to even the match in the second set by forging a 24-all tie, but after an errant serve by the visitors it was a Desiree Johnson kill which opened a 2-0 lead for Louisiana.
Antoine supplied a block and a kill to during a three-point spurt that erased Nicholls' final lead and put Louisiana ahead 16-14 in the third set. The Colonels would rally to draw even at 22-all and once again a service error played in Louisiana's favor.
The two squads played through 20 ties and seven lead changes throughout the contest.
